Object: aa - The polls are open! AQOTM for Sep 2007
As I mentioned a little while back, I'm heading out today to catch a
ride on a cruise with Mickey, so I'm posting the ballots early this
month. Things will even out next month. C-ya!
Here are the nominations for Atheist Quote of the Month for September
2007. Vote for your favorite by responding to this thread. Votes will be
accepted until midnight, Sep 30, 2007. See rules below. Questions?
Comments?
Email me.
* * * * *
1) Some people will believe anything. Have you heard the one about the
god who impregnated a virgin using another third of himself to produce
the third third of himself, who, some thirty years later, was killed and
raised from the dead promising to return within the lifetime of those
listening to the promise after going away and leaving the second third
in his place?
By: Liz
Nominated: skyeyes
Seconded: Doc Smartass
------------
2) Yes I hear atheism is a religion and so I am intent on determining
what it is you do everyday as you live? What methodologies do you
adhere to, intoxicating rants and mantras do you sing and dance to? Any
beads or amulets used, specific candles or rocks, supposed powerful
words or spells spoken? Any kneeling down, or sticking your head under
the sand, rights given to any fluids for gratuitous effect?
By: Xtrchessreal
Nominated: Martin Phipps
Seconded: Hatter
------------
3) Your [die-hard Christians] brains may not be able to cope with
reality, the cold hard truth. You can't expect a pocket calculator to
play a PS3 game.
By: Luke
Nominated: Panama Floyd
Seconded: Lucifer
------------
4) And while, in most cases, I agree that parents are the best people
to decide what is right for their children, they also have a
responsibility to treat them as human beings and not chattel.
By: Liz
Nominated: stoney
Seconded: Doc Smartass
------------
5) Fundamentalism makes them nasty, but as you say it's not just
Christians. What makes Christianity worse though, is that it is an
evangelising conversion religion which tells its followers to spread the
word - but it doesn't equip them to do it.
So they enter other people's space and insist in "discussing" it from
the presumption that it is all true, and accuse audiences of all kind of
personally nasty "reasons" why they're not interested. In the audience's
space where only one POV counts - the audience's.
By: Christopher A.Lee
Nominated: Thurisaz, Germanic barbarian
Seconded: Michael Gray
------------
6) Here's an idea: scientists should announce that they have been able
to create artificial *souls*. Since there would be no way to disprove
their claim, the religionists would just have to implode....
By: MarkA
Nominated: Al Klein
Seconded: Uncle Vic
------------
7) In response to:

The entire concept [creating artificial life] is inherently evil and
should be rejected by all decent people, not just Christians.

So your god-character is inherently evil?
By: Denis Loubet
Nominated: Peter van Velzen
Seconded: nemo
------------
8) I feel pity for you deluded fools. You are frauds that try to sell
fire insurance for the after life. You do not value this life, and
dream of a pie in the sky existence after death. You cheapen this life
and this world, dreaming of the day when you can sport that big fat
woody watching those of us the did care, burn for eternity. You
threaten us with lies, make claims you can not support and cry like
babies when we show you how flimsy your house of cards really is. You
are all nothing but frightened children, scared of the monsters under
your bed and clinging to the security blanket of superstition and
fantasy. You are Christians, some of the bloodiest killers in history
and I don't believe you.
By: Rev. Karl E. Taylor
Nominated: Uncle Vic
Seconded: Michelle Malkin
------------
9) Here's mine, show us yours:

Texas") by Doc "No, I'm Not!" Smartass
The G-O-P, it seems to be
(bom-bom-bom-bom)

But are they gay? Who them? NO WAY!

By: Doc Smartass
Nominated: Tink
Seconded: Robibnikoff

10) Don't waste your time playing soccer with your kids in the park, go
sit on your ***** in a church and listen to some shallow, shrivelled husk
of a man drone on about the meaning of life, when he's never truely
lived, and the importance of family when he has none. Yeah, that's the
ticket!
What a bunch of losers, too ignorant, too caught up in their sorry
excuse for the meaningful existance others have created for themselves
that the only thing left for them to do is squawk and hiss at those who
live the life that's passing them by.
By: Enkidu
Nominated: nemo
Seconded: Panama Floyd

11) Religion is like venerial disease. I don't hate you because you
have it, but if you're actively trying to spread it, you should be
locked up for the good of society.

Nominated: Liz
Seconded: Christopher A.Lee

12) Oh man, you're going to get a lecture from V now.
"Thank you for your comment, Hatter. As we all know, it is the mind
manacled militant atheist who destroys the peace of others by ignoring
their inner gods of indigestion and gonorrhea (I can never remember what
they're called) by letting their hatred disturb the blessed peace within
my superbly spritually balanced head. While I believe in no gods, when I
listen to the gods of indigestion and gonorrhea they tell me that I am
spiritually spiritual in an exemplary way when I get kicked out of
lists, so I must do so to show the mind manacled militant atheists the
right way, the right thoughts, the right position to hold your pinkie,
and that a multitude of opinions do not mean I am an *****. No, Hatter, it
is my ***** who is an *****, but the mind manacled militant atheist decieves
himself through his hatred into believing that the rest of me is the
same as my *****."
By: Neil Kelsey
Nominated: Panama Floyd
Seconded: Ghod

13) Sometimes you've just got to rant. Thanks to the deep rooted
religious hatred of women, anything remotely pertaining to female
sexuality is just wrong and dirty by definition, and tonight there was a
perfect example of this.
Viagra, cialis and other drugs designed to let men have more and better
sex are constantly advertised on TV, in print and probably on the radio.
Viagra even has a commercial in which a bunch of guys are jamming in a
basement, singing "Viva Viagra" to the tune of "Viva Las Vegas".
Tonight, a commercial break during the evening news ended with one of
these Viva Viagra commercials, and the next news story was about the
Panned Parenthood facility that is facing protests in Ohio. Planned
Parenthood provides many vital services for women, including getting
pregnant and having a healthy pregnancy, but it was referred to as an
abortion clinic, and the priests and gospel singers and protesters had
their little anti-abortion signs and pictures and stuff, marching around
the property.
---------
US sexual attitudes in a nut shell. Protest Planned Parenthood because
it's a complete women's health clinic. Protest an actual cancer vaccine
because it'll promote female whoredom. Protest Plan B contraceptives
because women are just too stupid to understand how to use it. It's
enough that men enjoy having sex; women should be thankful we get to
pleasure men. That's all god and the fundies want.

Here are the rules for the Quote of the Month Contests.
RULES
1. Only atheists and agnostics may participate in the contests.
2. A quote is a valid entry for the contests if:
a. The quote is a brief piece of text
b. The quote has recently been written in alt.atheism (verifiable),
and is original (no quotes by famous authors, for instance)
c. Nomination of the quote is made by an atheist or agnostic
in alt.atheism
d. Nomination of the quote is supported by at least one other
atheist or agnostic in alt.atheism;
e. The quote is not nominated or seconded by the person who wrote it
in the first place (no one is allowed to nominate him- or herself,
but a person can vote for the quote he or she wrote.)
3. There will be two categories: 'Atheist Quote of the Month'
and 'Theist Quote of the Month'. The category for which a
quote must be nominated must be mentioned by the atheist or
agnostic who wants to nominate it.
If a quote is miscategorized (e.g. an atheist quote is mistakenly
nominated in the Theist QOTM category), the quote will be re-directed
to appear in the correct category, with approriate notification.
4. Nominations can be made until five days before the first of the
next month. If quotes are nominated after this period, they will be
considered as entries for the contest of the next month.
* When making a nomination, please use this format for the subject
line:
"aa - <A or T as applicable>QOTM Nomination (was: <original thread
name>)"
5. Each atheist or agnostic who visits alt.atheism has one vote to
cast for each category (two votes total).
6. Voting starts 5 days before the end of the month. During the month,
votes will be ignored. This way, all nominees will have equal chance of
winning.
7. The two winning quotes will be published in the QOTM Archive.
SUMMARY
A nomination must contain the following information:
1. The lines of the quote.
2. Who wrote it.
3. Who nominates or seconds the nomination of this quote (that's you!)
4. Which category this nomination is for.
5. The word "nomination" MUST appear somewhere in the subject line!
6. The original thread title must appear in the subject line.
Publish the nomination or support for a nomination in a designated
thread, preferably called "[T/A]QoTM Nomination for [month]." You can
also e-mail it to me (see below).
VOTING
1. In the last five days of the month you can cast your vote in both
categories.
2. Votes must be placed in the designated thread.

Lucky #13 for me this time around.

13) Sometimes you've just got to rant. Thanks to the deep rooted
religious hatred of women, anything remotely pertaining to female
sexuality is just wrong and dirty by definition, and tonight there was

a

perfect example of this.

Viagra, cialis and other drugs designed to let men have more and better
sex are constantly advertised on TV, in print and probably on the

radio.

Planned
Parenthood provides many vital services for women, including getting
pregnant and having a healthy pregnancy, but it was referred to as an
abortion clinic, and the priests and gospel singers and protesters had
their little anti-abortion signs and pictures and stuff, marching

around

the property.
---------
US sexual attitudes in a nut shell. Protest Planned Parenthood because
it's a complete women's health clinic. Protest an actual cancer

vaccine

because it'll promote female whoredom. Protest Plan B contraceptives
because women are just too stupid to understand how to use it. It's
enough that men enjoy having sex; women should be thankful we get to
pleasure men. That's all god and the fundies want.
