I'm not sure if it's because I'm sick of this bloody obnoxious

Religion is but a desperate attempt to find an escape from the truly
dreadful situation in which we find ourselves. Here we are in this wholly
fantastic universe with scarcely a clue as to whether our existence has
any real significance. No wonder then that many people feel the need for
some belief that gives them a sense of security, and no wonder that they
become very angry with people like me who say that this is illusory.

Twit? Twit? Of course he's a twit. A stupid fucking twat of a twit.

I long for the Good Old Days (which were not) when people ran their own BBS
systems and a Twit meant something.
On my boards it meant that the Twit could pay, could read and respond to
anything he wanted to. He even saw everything he wrote.
But nobody else did.

No, it's further evidence I should not post pre-coffee.
I have not--I repeat *not*--run into this here among our group. In
fact, I had in mind one (now former) friend that... well, I'm not going to
get into it. Suffice it to say, you'd risk getting slapped for anything
remotely perceived as a slight towards women but anything she said in
trashing men was just okay I was supposed to sit down and shut up.
Unfortunately, rereading what I wrote, it came out as a rather sweeping
generality which wasn't what I thought I was writing. Sorry if it came off
as commentary on folks in the ng.
(Weirdly enough, until very recently, I didn't know--I'm *serious
here--that's what "twat" meant and thought it was another word for "*****"
until I was brought up short by a couple of posters around some ng or
other... maybe here, I don't recall now. In any case, I think "twit"
suffices.)

Such words tend to have diferent meaings and different degrees of insult
depending on a lot of factors. While rideing home from a Catholic boarding
school one afternoon with the kids from the local Catholic high school I
found this out *much* to my embarrasment. 90 miles difference in location
and worlds apart in meaning.

Is that what you want to tell the women here?

When you realize that calling somebody a *****, an *****, a boob,
a nutsack, a schmuck, a *****, or a putz are all about equally
insulting, I think you'll realize that calling somebody a twat has
very little to do with femininity or female genitalia.
But, having said that, I'm sorry if I offended you. Oh, sure, I

difference between the words, and considering how pun-obsessed us
a.aers are...well, surely, it would seem to be one of those
irresistible forces one often hears about.

From what I understand, by using the word twat, or ***** the intent is
to put down a guy by calling him a woman. It's about on the same
level as calling him a girly boy (as our lovely govenor has a penchant
for doing), which is derogatory to gays too.
A ***** is not calling someone a guy in general, it refers to a guy
who's being overcome with testorone so much he's acting like a jerk, a
boob has nothing to do with breasts in that context (it's short for
booby which was a stupid acting bird) and I'm not real sure what a
putz is - another term for *****? A nutsack I think is calling someone
nuts or crazy, rather than male testes.

But, having said that, I'm sorry if I offended you. Oh, sure, I

I'm not really all that offended, but I realize that sometimes people
don't stop to think about what they really are saying when they use a
slang term.

You knew a lesbian who called Maggie Thatcher a {cab|ambulance|*****|what-have-you}
You know how *long* it's been since I've had to *explain* one of those?

When I'm in company I think or know includes one or more lesbians, I try not to be a *****.
But *only* then.
