AA: He's not the Messiah. Idle oratorio in Oz |
http://www.australianstage.com.au/component/option,com_events/Itemid,181/task,view_detail/agid,1782/year,2007/month,12/day,05/
An anti-religious feast for Australian opera lovers.
"Not The Messiah | Eric Idle
Hallelujah, Brian has risen! Move over Handel, the team that unleashed
Spamalot on an unsuspecting public has combined to give Monty Python’s
Life of Brian the Messiah treatment. For one night only, on Wednesday
5 December, join Monty Python superstar Eric Idle, collaborator John
Du Prez and a cast of thousands – well, use your imagination – in this
triumphant re-telling of the legendary film.
Why not drink in the Christmas spirit with a rousing sing-a-long
finale of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life? Be inspired - and
maybe a little aroused - by Hail to the Shoe. Expect pop, Welsh hymns,
country and western, hip hop, Broadway, Greek chorus, Bob Dylan and
choral sex with Eric Idle as the baritone-ish soloist and narrator.
It’s a night of baroque n’ roll on a grand scale, with a very full
orchestra, massed choir, bagpipers and classical soloists, all hosted
by the Python frontman… and some sheep. Watch in awe as Idle
re-creates some of his best known roles from Life of Brian including
Mr Cheeky, the man in the crowd who asked if Mandy is a virgin, and
the lead singer, Crucifixee. Marvel at the recreation of musical hits
such as the rousing O God You Are So Big, the poignant Woe Woe Woe,
the petulant What Have The Romans Ever Done For Us and the final The
Final Song.
But whatever you do, don’t expect anything serious. Please.
“Shorter than Handel, funnier than Handel, but obviously not as good
theologically.” Eric Idle

Great. They finally do this, and I'm almost literally on the other
side of the world.
Oh, well. I guess I'll just wait for the road show...<g>

There is a good reason that he is touring in the land of reason, and
not the Thoecratic States of the USA, (nor Britain, where the
blasphemy laws still stand.)
It is touring New Zealand as well.

Will there be a film of the live show?
YouTube, perhaps?

Most likely: NOT ON YOUR NELLY!
YouTube, perhaps?
Only a 'pirate' version, I expect.
