AA: Interesting sciency stuff... |
http://sortingoutscience.net/
.... has a video of a proposed NASA lunar rover, with six legs, and I
want one!
You have to check out the video to get a grasp of just how cool the
damn thing is!
(And also included on the same page is a cartoon showing evolution at
work, and lastly, a film from 1967 which actually does a pretty good
job of predicting home computers, the internet, etc.)

Shopping and banking online.
That's just silly.
Never happen.
Seriously I'm in a constant state of wonder at what we can do now.
My granddaughter is seven and plays educational games online as does
my future step granddaughter <In a sense> who is five.
I'm an Internet freak myself.
I'm also a gadget and gizmo guy and buy stuff just because it's there.
I once had a book <which I unfortunately loaned out and never got
back> that had writings by people throughout the centuries.
One was by a guy who lived in the 16th century and wrote about the
wonders of his age like the compass, the printing press, the sextant
the wonderful sailing ships and so on.
He ended by writing that he wished he could live another hundred years
so he could see all the wonders that were to come.
I sort of feel the same.

Uncanny, wasn't it?
Unlike most of the "predictions" that we would all be flying in
hover-cars!
SUVs don't float.

You have evolved Ethernet connections?
How fascinating!
I'm also a gadget and gizmo guy and buy stuff just because it's there.
I *never* do that.
And Ronald Reagan was the best President.

The "bible"?
Don't bother asking for it back.

That'd be Jeb Bush.

Ah know what you'all mean there. ;)
But, as Dawkins, Sagan et al espouse, we are fantastically fortunate
to have scooped the lottery in the consciousness stakes!

Pretty incredible actually.
Unlike most of the "predictions" that we would all be flying in
hover-cars!
SUVs don't float.
After checking out the site I was thinking of all the Popular
Mechanics magazines I read as a kid that predicted so much that didn't
happen and missed so much that has.
I should have had my rocket backpack by the late sixties or early
seventies.
I'm still sort of pissed about that.
Seriously I'm in a constant state of wonder at what we can do now.
My granddaughter is seven and plays educational games online as does

You have evolved Ethernet connections?
How fascinating!
That would be great if I could control it.
I'm also a gadget and gizmo guy and buy stuff just because it's there.
I *never* do that.
And Ronald Reagan was the best President.
I'm actually thinking of getting a new cell phone <More than a cell
phone nowadays> that will allow me to surf the net anywhere.
I've always bought my phones in general electronic stores and for the
first time several months ago wandered into a store that sells nothing
but different brands of really fancy phones.
I broke out in a cold sweat, my knees got weak and my hands started to
shake.
I want one of each.
And I'm definitely getting this:

I once had a book <which I unfortunately loaned out and never got

The "bible"?
Don't bother asking for it back.
Actually I had a few Bibles at one point.
Only have one now.
I think the Devil stole the rest.
Or maybe a naughty Christian.

Ah but it's a gizmo.
I need my books for comfort but in certain situations this would be
good to have.
I took four of he five kids who live here <My granddaughter and three
futures> swimming yesterday.
I took my usual minimum of three books to read from as they swam.
It would have been great to have this thing.

No, but I am a Star Trek fan.
It appears at the moment that travel outside our solar syatem will
never happen and that's sort of sad.

But!! It has already happenned for one of the Voyager robots** and
the projection of its future appeared in a Star Trek movie!
That's as consoling as I am able to be...
