Dammit, people, no one should have to hear this much christer idiocy at one
time this early in the morning.
NPR was running part of a series on Voodoo and how christers are trying to
clean it up in Africa because it's a "superstition." Keep in mind that
there's an aspect of veneration of dead relatives.
The Moment came when a missionary made the claim--

departed."

No, Doc Strawslinger, what you need is a dose of intellectual honesty
is what you need. Christianity as practiced today is light years
removed from the primitive practices and rituals of Voodoo. Seen any
Christians lately carrying around litle dolls and sticking pins into
them? Seen any casting spells and carrying around skulls? And with
respect to veneration, if it's the Catholic's veneration of saints you
refer to here, so what? Americans venerate the memory of many people
in secular life as well. We build statues to our heroes and sing their
praises in secular life, too. So what?
Venerating, honoring the memory of those who die is a common practice

Go take a flying ***** at a rolling doughnut.

You forgot the followup. The phrase "Go take a flying ***** at a rolling
doughnut" is supposed to be followed by, "Go take a flying ***** at the

I've never heard it as both together; I only know the doughnut one because

Crucifix, rosary beads -- simply different religious paraphenalia

Seen any casting spells ...

Yup. When I attended mass many years ago, the sorcerer (priest) said a
magic spell that turned water and wine into flesh and blood.

... and carrying around skulls?

Good point. Christians just have some corpse nailed and hanging from a
couple of planks.

Venerating, honoring the memory of those who die is a common practice

But abortovorkians, sir, have an even more amazing trick, one which
they've pulled off about 600,000 times in the last 30 years. They
claim that if a woman doesn't want a baby at, say, at eight months of
pregnancy and beyond, it's a fetus, a non-human, a blob, a nothing. It
then goes into the dumpster. But if that same woman *wants* this same
baby, why POOF! - it's all of a sudden a live and a real human being
SAVED from that same medical dumpster, or tissue lab, whatever the
case may be. Now that's magic, Twinky. One minute it's a *fetus* if
she doesn't want it, and the next minute it's a baby if she does.

If you're talking about the "Poopie!" video, sorry to dissappoint, but it's not
that great. Certainly not as funny as the best episodes of the show, but I
guess it's worth a purchase for fans of the show.
Hell, I'd buy a video of Mike just sitting silently through a movie at this
point. Damn Sci-Fi. Damn them all to Hell.

You took the words right outta my mouth.
But I guess they had to make room for all that *new programming. Like
their current "new, original series" that they have called "Code
Name:Eternity" or whatever the hell.
If you check the date on this "new, original series" it's 1999. It's new
and original in the sense of being a single season of a five year old
canceled series they bought off a network in Canada.
Obviously, with all that original, quality programming they just didn't
have room for MST3K...

Gak, I got it yesterday and was EXTREMELY disappointed. I'm going to toss it
right in the garbage ;p

I KNOW! I am so ticked off that it's not going to be on anymore. I loved
watching it on Saturday mornings and my five-year-old got into it as well.

Feh, the Sci-Fi Channel. Any network that cancels *Farscape*, not to mention
the Invisible Man, G vs E and the saturday anime block, isn't worth the crap
off of my *****. I'll be glad when that third-rate channel finally goes under,
and a *real* network dedicated to fantasy and science fiction programming can
take it's place.

All the time actually. The typical Christian doll is nearly naked and
attached to two pieces of wood. The doll usually has three pins already
stuck into it.

No, Doc Strawslinger, what you need is a dose of intellectual honesty
is what you need. Christianity as practiced today is light years
removed from the primitive practices and rituals of Voodoo. Seen any
Christians lately carrying around litle dolls and sticking pins into
them? Seen any casting spells and carrying around skulls? And with
respect to veneration, if it's the Catholic's veneration of saints you
refer to here, so what? Americans venerate the memory of many people
in secular life as well. We build statues to our heroes and sing their
praises in secular life, too. So what?

Venerating, honoring the memory of those who die is a common practice
in secular, as well as religious life. However, rituals surrounding
the dead in Voodoo go far beyond this. When one deliberately distorts
the language to make a point they reveal themselves for intellectually
bankrupt frauds.

You seem to have missed the point entirely, Granny. Christians
worship a god who has *died. In fact, that is the central tenet of
their religion. Their god needed to die to atone for their sin. The
savior has also *departed, and they await and await and await for him
to return. Christians believe that they will be rewarded, not in this
life, but after death and they live their lives with this in mind.
IOW, Christians lives are dominated by "the dead and the departed".
As for bones, you might want to check out the Catholic church on Via
Veneto in Rome, Santa Maria della Concezione. It's crypts are totally
decorated with the bones of dead monks. See
http://www.stuardtclarkesrome.com/capuchin.html
for pictures. I've been there. It's rather strange decor for an
American's taste.

No, Doc Strawslinger, what you need is a dose of intellectual honesty

What a classic case of projection on your part.
Christians' lives are dominated by 'the dead and departed. A shitload
of them; "Christ, Mary, the (barf) "Saints," Satan, and other fictional
constructs.

Christianity as practiced today is light years
removed from the primitive practices and rituals of Voodoo.

No. Same rubbish, different practices and rituals.
Ritual cannibalism is about as primitive as you can get.

Seen any
Christians lately carrying around litle dolls and sticking pins into
them? Seen any casting spells and carrying around skulls?

Spell-casting=prayer.
Christians substitute rosary beads and torture instruments (cross).

And with
respect to veneration, if it's the Catholic's veneration of saints you
refer to here, so what? Americans venerate the memory of many people

Oh, well, but then most "mod up-to-date-and-with-its" don't have a clue
how the present day and their own ah...unique and unsullied selves are a
product and result of the "dead and departed." At least religion has
some respect for the past and the wisdom of its forebears.

Unless, of course, it is the wisdom of some *other* religion's forebearers, in
which case it is just "superstition".
Ahhhhh, religion, always so quick to denounce those who are different and "not
