AA: Richard Perle admits the Iraq invasion was illegal, Guardian newspaper |
http://www.guardian.co.uk/Iraq/Story/0%2C2763%2C1089158%2C00.html
In a startling break with the official White House and Downing
Street lines, Mr Perle told an audience in London: "I think in this
case international law stood in the way of doing the right thing."
President George Bush has consistently argued that the war was legal
either because of existing UN security council resolutions on Iraq -
also the British government's publicly stated view - or as an act of
self-defence permitted by international law.
But Mr Perle, a key member of the defence policy board, which
advises the US defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, said that
"international law ... would have required us to leave Saddam
Hussein alone", and this would have been morally unacceptable.
So Bush's own now admit he (and by extension Blair, Howard et al) are
war criminals.
But who died and made Bush God to decide who rules another country,
especially when the US ignores the behaviour of dictators they support
including Hussein when he fought a proxy war on our behalf against
Iran?
When are we going to see them in front of the International Criminal
Court charged with what is under international law a war crime?
Shades of Nuremberg.

That much was crystal clear from the outset to anyone who knows basic
international law, and the US Army Rules of Engagmenet.
Crystal clear.
