Johannes Petrus Pretorius, 46, was found guilty on the third day of a
trial last month for three counts of sexual assault but his sentence
was adjourned until today after he collapsed in the dock with heart
problems.

Judge Robertson said he had read references about Mr Pretorius’s work
as a mining engineer, his service in the military for South Africa in
the war against Angola, and from a Bribie Island pastor who believed
“such behaviour is totally outside the realm of possibility for you”.
“Sadly, from where I sit, it does occur and it is often the case that
abhorrent sexual behaviour is committed by people who are otherwise
pillars of society,” he said.
