Haggard's problem is that thumpers do see a problem.
But not the one everybody else does. They simply see one of theirs
doing falling into sin.
Think Jimmy Swaggart who was caught playing hide the salami with a
prostitute - twice. And each time blubbered in front of his followers
about being a sinner. And they still follow him.
They _love_ reformed sinners who confess their sins.
When they accuse the rest of us of a double standard, eg going after
Haggard, Foley et al while ignoring Clinton etc, they forget their
hypocrisy. But Clinton hadn't campaigned against blow jobs between
consenting adults before being caught out.
In their minds certain behaviour is normal, and so is campaigning
against other behaviour. He just slipped, that's all.
It's the Republicans who aren't fundies who see a problem.

family, this preacher of "family values" - having kept this little
secret from his family. Do you think it might have been a problem for
Haggart's CONSCIENCE?
How about the problem of his preaching All-American, family values to
his hugecongregation, (who placed great faith in him? while thoughts of
humping 18 year old boys pops into his thoughts? Do you see the
problem there??

I got your point, but in all honesty regarding -this- particular aspect of it, I
seriously doubt he had any problem with it. He strikes me as a pathological
liar, and they seldom if ever regret their lies.
