Abdul Rahman - redux |
AFGHANISTAN'S LOST CONVERT
The Troubled Odyssey of Abdul Rahman
The case of Afghan Christian convert Abdul Rahman captured the world's
attention for two weeks. Now his German asylum file and statements by
his brother paint a picture of a seriously troubled man.

CHRISTIANS IN AFGHANISTAN
A Community of Faith and Fear
Afghan converts to Christianity lead dangerous lives and must keep their
faith secret to avoid persecution by police, Islamists or even their own
neighbors. Members of this secret society have to constantly keep
looking over their shoulders.

WORLDS COLLIDING
Afghanistan's Human Rights Disaster
The case of Afghan Christian convert Abdul Rahman has attracted
worldwide attention. Responding to international pressure, the
government in Kabul has promised Rahman's release. But the case
demonstrates that human rights continue to be in short supply in the
Hindukush region, despite the fall of Afghanistan's fundamentalist
Taliban regime five years ago.

OPINION
Afghanistan's Democratic Deficiency
A few caricatures in a Danish newspaper caused bloody riots in the
Muslim world. But now an Afghan man has been sentenced to death for
converting to Christianity. Afghanistan has told the West it should mind
its own business. Come again?

Koran 4:89
They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that
you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends
until they fly (their homes) in Allah's way; but if they turn back, then
seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among
them a friend or a helper.
************
I'm not sure if this is the only citation form the Koran used to justify
death for apostasies. I'd appreciate if someone could add on here.
Also, I think Mohamed put the death penalty on atheists. Does someone
know the cite for this?

it is not very clear and neat.
you can look for in http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/quran/index.htm
The most important part is:
4:89 They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that
ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them
till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back
(to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and
choose no friend nor helper from among them
4:91 Ye will find others who desire that they should have security from
you, and security from their own folk. So often as they are returned to
hostility they are plunged therein. If they keep not aloof from you nor
offer you peace nor hold their hands, then take them and kill them
wherever ye find them. Against such We have given you clear warrant.
