believe her when she claimed Lincoln was a Republican! This being Texas, I
guess they figured anyone who was against States' rights must be some kind
of a steenkin' liberal Democrat.

The modern GOP has been openly hostile to States rights for the last dozen

rights when they don't toe the Federal GOP Party line.

Case in point: states with "Medical Marijuana" laws, like Arizona.

No need. They're doing a pretty good job ruining the Parks already,
and bankrupting the Park Service.
Except for George Washington Highway. It's VERY important that the
Park Service spare no expense keeping that particular "scenic way" in
tip-top condition. (In point of fact it's a commuter highway for DC

OK, let's pretend there are no lawyers. Someone hits you with
a frivolous lawsuit anyway. Maybe it's an unemployed person.
Maybe, in fact, there are hordes of unemployed people who
have nothing to lose and make their living doing this. As, in
fact, there are. There are people who go around trying to get
hit by cars or try to slip and fall.
These people have nothing better to do than to sit in the public
library reading law books. Maybe they've even spent some time
in prison, where the only diversions are snorting detergent,
working in the laundry, or reading books in the law library that,
by law, has to be provided to every prisoner.
Now, you seem like a smart guy. I bet you probably know exactly
what a Writ of Certiorari is without even looking it up. However,
there are probably a lot of things you don't know. You can't hire
someone to handle the details because there are no lawyers,
because lawyers are bad, mmm'kay? So you have to do this
yourself, and while you're doing that, you're not running your
business.
Practically anybody can file a claim in small claims court for up
to $2000, and it only costs them about $15, which includes a
subpoena. And if you or a representative doesn't show up, they
win by default.
There are many things wrong with the legal system and the
litigious culture that deserve to be fixed. The actual existence of
trial lawyers, however, isn't one of them.

to pay a lawyer to defend me. If I don't get hit, I don't.

My point is if there weren't these predatory lawyers out there
encouraging the public to sue because "they may be entitled to damages
and not even know it" I wouldn't have to defend myself. And tort
reform would assist in that end.
BTW, in my state (Florida) legislature is coming down the pike to
limit the verbiage mentioned above in council ads.

So when willl Bush and the NeoCons start smearing him?

They do every day when they call themselves Republicans.

I like to see them do attack ads on Lincoln:

liberal who hates Christians and America...."

The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession. I could never give
assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma.

Well, at least he wasn't too fond of fundies. :) However, I have seen this
quoted before where "religion" is in the place of "profession".
