A volunteer driving me from the airport to a pregnancy resource center
speaking engagement described a heart-wrenching incident.
She said during a recent luncheon with three friends, all four admitted
to having abortions. One had never told anyone before that day.
The volunteer, now on the pregnancy resource center board, invited them
to the banquet, and at least one decided to attend. But she said she
didn't know what to expect and was afraid.
I made sure to weave into my speech a reminder that if one asks
forgiveness for his or her participation in abortion, God will forgive.
I've written about one of my favorite verses, Genesis 50:20, many
times. It says, "Even though you planned evil against me, God planned
good to come out of it. This was to keep many people alive, as he is
doing now."
That verse comforts me when I might otherwise be overwhelmed.
As I write, speak, and listen on the topic of abortion, I am
increasingly aware of the eternal lives God is saving through it. I
don't understand. Can it be that God is allowing the catastrophe of
abortion to save the eternal lives of the parents who kill their
babies?
I conjectured this recently and received a response that delved even
deeper:
You stated interesting possibilities in your column.
Here is another one. Fishermen used to get rid of the pesky starfish in
their fishing nets by cutting them in half and throwing them back.
Problem was that many of the starfish would regenerate legs and the net
result was two starfish for every one that was cut in half.
It could be that in God's bigger picture, each unborn child may through
God's mercy be covered by the blood of Christ and be ushered into the
kingdom.
I am assuming that the majority of these children were conceived by
non-Christian women who would not have raised them in the fear and
admonition of the Lord.
If, as you say, hearts are sometimes softened in the aftermath, this
could very much be like the starfish syndrome.
All things do work for good even through tragedy.
They say over 40 percent of American women have aborted, meaning as
many men have, too. Lately, I hear more and more testimonies of parents
coming to the Lord from this.
But there are so many who have not.
Psalm 103:8-13 says: "The LORD is compassionate, merciful, patient, and
always ready to forgive. He will not always accuse us of wrong or be
angry [with us] forever. He has not treated us as we deserve for our
sins or paid us back for our wrongs. As high as the heavens are above
the earth - that is how vast his mercy is toward those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west - that is how far he has removed
our rebellious acts from himself. As a father has compassion for his
children, so the LORD has compassion for those who fear him."
Frankly, people who lament that their sin of abortion is unforgivable
need to get over themselves. In actuality, they have a pride issue.
They think their sin is more special than anyone else's who has ever
lived.
What's worse, people who don't seek and accept God's forgiveness about
their abortions make matters worse. They don't get in the game because
they feel like hypocrites. They could help stop others from making the
same mistake but don't.
Psalm 8:2 says, "You have made sure that children and infants praise
you. You have done it because of your enemies. You have done it to put
a stop to their talk."
Aborted children are already praising God. God taught them so as to
silence Satan. Think about it.
Psalm 22:30 says, "Posterity will serve him."
Aborted children are also already serving God. Think about it.
Aborted babies are already praising and serving God. If you're the
parent of one or more, get over your sin. There are many post-abortion
groups if you need extra help.
Learn to sing again. Your baby certainly is. Join your baby.

I have pointed this out before that Christians should consider
abortion to be a selfless act of Christian charity. It ensures the
fetus goes straight to heaven with no risk of hell. Why aren't you
Christians cheering the work of the abortion clinics and encouraging
women (especially non-Christian women) to avail themselves of their
services?
Seriously, explain why abortion is bad if the fetus goes straight to
heaven.

Amusing. A fairly large percentage of the fundie sects that believe
absolutely that life starts at conception also believed that there are no
exceptions to avoiding hell unless they are "saved"
NO exceptions.
So the two-thirds to three fourths of fertilized ova that don't make it to
or past the embryo stage as well as those that are aborted by choice are
damned for all eternity. So are all those who die before being old enough to
make such a request.
