Abortion Foes Want Protection for Fertilized Eggs (Human Beings)
DENVER -- Anti-abortion activists in several states are promoting
constitutional amendments that would define life as beginning at conception,
which could effectively outlaw all abortions and some birth-control methods.
The campaigns to grant "personhood" to fertilized eggs, giving them the same
legal protections as human beings, come as the nation in December marks the
35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade -- the U.S. Supreme Court decision
legalizing abortion.

So, you will be demanding prosecution of any woman who has a

even figure when RvW was handed down: January 22, 1973.)

What about the high rate of spontaneous abortion that occur before a
woman knows she's pregnant, and what aobut the fact that most
fertilized ova don't implant?

There can be no compromise; life begins at conception.

You want a state presence in every bedroom (and the back seat of every car)
to determine when conception occurs and grant the foetus "personhood"?
How're you gonna do that? What about those that split after conception to
become identical twins/triplets/etc.? You've got 2 or more "persons" there
and only one of them has been granted "personhood"! Are the others
non-"persons"?
Never mind the gross invasion of privacy and the cost of the bureaucracy
involved, what about all those wasted personhood certificates when a foetus
is aborted naturally. A death certificate would have to be provided for
every natural abortion. Who gets to determine if the abortion was natural or
induced? How do they determine that?
Do foetuses get counted on a census return?
If yes, does the enumerator ask a woman or a girl that has reached puberty
if she's had unprotected sex in the last 24 hours? At what stage is she in
her cycle? How does the enumerator determine if a girl has reached puberty
and is, therefore, able to conceive? How does the enumerator determine if a
woman has passed the menopause and is, therefore, unable to conceive?
Having been a census enumerator, I know there's a very strong likelyhood of
getting a slap or punch in the face for asking any of those questions. Even
if an answer is forthcoming, how does one determine the veracity of that
answer? Virginity testing? Virginity certificates?
Virginity certificates would, of course, need to be renewed frequently.
The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it becomes.

Freezing the zygote by the parents for implanting later will be, by
law, denying the zygote its personhood. It is also an evasive medical
procedure the zygote/person has not consented to. Then those already
frozen zygotes will have to be unfrozen and implanted when the law
takes effect. What happens to the mother who has more than one frozen
zygote? Will she be forced to have a multiple birth? Guess so.
Will the parents have to have a court order to induce labor? Will the
parents have to have a court order to allow a surgeon to repair a
defective heart in the fetus/person? After all, the fetus/person has
not consented to the medical procedure.
If the pregnant mother is an actress and she works while pregnant,
does the fetus/person have to have a separate contract with the movie
producer? Does the fetus/person have to join the Screen Actors Guild
first?
Can the state government sue the pregnant mother for child
endangerment if one twin fetus/person complains there's not enough
room in the womb for the both of them?
Can the pregnant mother have the fetus/person arrested for battery
because the fetus/person is kicking her?
