As Eric Rudolph Pleas, Abortion Violence Goes Both Ways
April 9, 2005
Atlanta, GA (LifeNews.com) -- Eric Rudolph has plead guilty and will
serve four life terms for bombing two abortion facilities, the 1996
Atlanta Olympics and a nightclub that catered to homosexuals. While
abortion advocates say they're the only victims of violence,
abortion-related violence strikes both sides.
Media outlets such as the Associated Press and Washington Post wrote
news stories Friday on he Rudolph plea and claimed he was an
"anti-abortion bomber." That profile falls in line with the thoughts of
pro-abortion groups.
The National Abortion Federation, a trade group for abortion
businesses, released a statement Friday calling on law enforcement
agencies to "continue investigation of a network of extremists who
assist violent criminals" who target abortion facilities.
"It is unlikely that Eric Rudolph evaded capture for five years without
help," NAF CEO Vicki Saporta said.
"The only way we are going to end the violence against abortion
providers is to not only capture and prosecute those responsible for
the violence, but to also find and prosecute those who assist them in
committing these acts and escaping from justice," she added.
However, Rudolph had no ties to the pro-life community and wasn't a
member of any pro-life organizations.
That's the case with other criminals who have engaged in similar acts
of violence against abortion practitioners or businesses according to
Jack Killorin, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Killorin told Life Advocate magazine in September 1992,
"Overwhelmingly, the fires tend to be the work of a loner. A lot of
these people convicted have never had any visible or traceable
connection to anti-abortion activity."
"[Investigators have uncovered] no sign of support from anti-abortion
organizations for this kind of activity," Killorin added, saying many
of the bombers "rejected" the work of pro-life groups.
Rudolph's hometown of Topton, North Carolina is headquarters for a
militia group called Northpoint Team and Rudolph was known to be
involved with a religious sect that also targeted churches and
homosexuals.
Pro-life groups have consistently opposed anyone who engages in
abortion violence.
One pro-life organization, Feminists for Life of America, offered a
reward "for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons
responsible for the bombing" after Rudolph bombed the Alabama abortion
facility.
Serrin Foster said her group would turn anyone in to the police who was
found to advocate or engage in violent activities.
Violence related to abortion also frequently targets pro-life
advocates.
In August 2000, Human Life International compiled a comparative report
of violence by both sides in the abortion debate. California state
Assemblyman Tim Leslie has examined the report.
"Contrasting verifiable crimes by pro-abortion advocates against
alleged crimes by pro-life advocates, one finds that in the category of
'Deadly and extreme crimes against persons (murder, manslaughter,
attempted murder, kidnapping, torture and rape)' there are 121
pro-abortion incidents versus 25 committed by supposedly pro-life
persons," Leslie explains.
"In the category of 'Less serious crimes against persons resulting in
actual injury (assault, sex crimes, reckless endangerment, and
violation of civil rights),' the ratio is 651-112," Leslie said.
Meanwhile, the National Church Arson Task Force of the BATF and the FBI
has documented 827 actual and attempted arsons and bombings of churches
and synagogues during the period January 1, 1995 to October 5, 1999.
Violent acts against pro-life advocates have also included murder.
In August 1993, Eileen Orstein Janezic shot and killed 51-year old
pro-life activist minister and radio talk show host Jerry Simon by
shooting him through a window of his home.
Tim Graham of the Media Research Center says the media has almost
exclusively focused on incidents of violence against abortion
advocates.
"At its apex, the national media devoted hundreds of stories a year to
harassment and violence surrounding abortion clinics," Graham explains.
"Violence committed against abortionists or clinic personnel inspired
more than 500 network television stories from January 1992 to
mid-1995."

individual offices there are offering abortion services or supporting
abortion services, (2) how many individual offices there are supporting
anti-choice operations, (3) how many incidents of violence happen to
either.
This article seems to be a desperate attempt on the part of the
media to find "balance." It's like the Intelligent Design and the
Media; the "balance" gives the impression that there's equal support for
both sides.

there with CNN or AP, is it?
Please recognize this garbage for what it is: yet another attempt by the
fanatic right to force it's minority morality and religion down the throats
of everyone else.

the analogy is not apt for the following reason
the status quo in the US is that abortion is legal
the extremist murdering pro-lifers (a tiny minority of pro-lifers) target
the pro-choicers because they are trying to prevent the abortions from being
carried out, and punishing the abortionists.
there is no analogy on the other side. pro-choicers seek an environment
were abortion is legal. pro-lifers seek the opposite. what would a
pro-choicer GAIN from killing a pro-lifer? nothing.
the point is far from subtle.
