Aceh Tsunami Epicenter was Muslim State - not anymore |
Acehnese have long been calling for independence
Indonesia has agreed [Monday, 4 December, 2000] to allow its troubled Aceh
province to introduce Islamic, or sharia law - a key demand of the
staunchly Muslim territory.
.... until Tsunami wiped them all out by sheer coincidence !!!!
Don't even think about it !!!!
Aceh is no more !!!

You know, Sharia is a perfect example of the problem with religious
law. At the time of its creation, sharia was *relatively*
progressive. Muhammed when out of his way to expand the rights and
priviledges of women and slaves and sought to supress such practices
as female infanticide.
Unfortunately, progressive by 6th century standards is very regressive
by modern standards. Once a law becomes associated with a religious
doctrine, it becomes something that is immutable. Since human
cultures have a natural tendency to evolve, including our sense of
ethics, such absolutist rules tend to do far more harm than good.
