The ACLU defends everyone's civil rights.
Even the civil rights of one its most virulent critics.
http://snipurl.com/4i7m
I wonder if this will change Limbaugh's tune when he has occasion to speak
of the ACLU.

The ACLU does many good things but it is a hypocrite. It picks and chooses
it pet rights and has no interest in litigating due process violations
against people put out of work by official licensing shams. ACLU is a one-
or two-trick pony. I will no longer pay dues to it.

All organizations have to pick and choose. But I hope you find an
organization that is more in tune with what you are most concerned
about.

The ACLU has a relatively narrow focus, mainly because that one focus takes up
all of its time and then some.

We might say "overload of available resources" and "assessment of
priorities." You can do only so much with what you have, so you try to
use it where it will do the most good. In the ACLU's case, this often
means simply challenging undesirable precedents, which tend to affect a
lot of people besides the litigants. Not very glamorous, maybe, but
unfortunately necessary, given so many government officials (and their
supporters) who are apparently unable to distinguish between liberty and
tyranny.
As for Amendment II, I'm not aware of any able bodied and mentally
stable adult citizen's being denied the right to join the well regulated
militia to defend the security of the state. Granted, state militias
(as described in US Constitution Article II, Section II) were disbanded
many years ago. Though "necessary" in principle, they were unworkable
in practice, since the states had little enthusiasm to fund and regulate
them. Even so, the principle is upheld, state militias having been
replaced by the National Guard, which those eager to defend the security
of the state are free to join. The N.G. even offers the advantage that
enlistees are no longer required to furnish their own arms, which can be
well out of most people's financial reach now that we've graduated from
muskets to stealth fighters. So if anyone is eager to exercise his or
her 2nd Amendment right, just pop into the nearest recruiter's office.
If you meet the requirements and pass the exams and background checks,
but they still won't let you join, then maybe you have something to talk
to the ACLU about.

Thanks for your correction. Although I understand that there are some
states that call their state police a "Militia," I wasn't aware that any
of the old state-regulated paramilitary volunteer groups had survived as
such.
Still, the statement remains technically true, as (most) state militias
were indeed disbanded, despite at least one exception (NY), and perhaps
others. (If I had said *all* state militias were disbanded, that would
have been not true. Not that I object to your informative and
constructive criticism.)

Such an inquiry would doubtless focus on a set of questions that
is bound to make Bush very uncomfortable: the central issue of
whether Bush and Vice President ***** Cheney accurately represented
the pre-Iraq war intelligence (or lack thereof) when claiming that
Saddam had WMD and that Iraqi had ties with al Qaeda.
Bush's magic appears to have worked again. His commission is a sham,

Yet it seems no one is complaining -- or at least, no one who could
