ACLU sues for gays' benefits |
Why would any man need another man to provide him with health care
benefits? The advantage of gay partnerships is that there are no
children at home that need attending. Let each man provide his own
health care, just like single straight people do. This notion that one
guy stays home and plays "Donna Reed" while the other one goes to work
should not become a burden on the American health care system. The
people of Michigan (and many other states) have spoken; No gay
marriage. Stop seeking "special" dispensations just because your
different.
http://www.freep.com/news/mich/gay22e_20050322.htm
Despite marriage ban, couples want health care
The American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit Monday asking the
courts to protect same-sex couples' health benefits in light of a state
constitutional ban on gay marriage.
In the suit, filed in Ingham County Circuit Court, the ACLU asked the
court to stipulate that the ban on gay marriage does not extend to
health care benefits for same-sex partners. The amendment, they said,
is ambiguous.
The ACLU filed the suit less than a week after state Attorney General
Mike Cox issued his legal interpretation about what effect the
amendment should have on health benefits. He concluded that the
amendment bans government agencies from extending benefits to same-sex
couples in any future contract negotiations.

The hay in a strawman probably comes from the same seed.
That means it can get married in many red states, even if it is not yet
fully grown.

If same sex marriage comes to be then why can't people marry
motor vehicles and get mechanical care coverage paid for by
the government.
Or, a man married to a woman should be able to marry his
Pontiac and another man and get healthcare for all and the
Pontiac doesn't need a yearly license because it's married.
The government has to provide shelter for the Pontiac too.
All married vehicles get a garage supplied by the government.

If same sex marriage comes to be then why can't people marry motor
vehicles and get mechanical care coverage paid for by the government.
Because machines can't enter into a binding contract.
xxxx
And 2 guys can't get married.
They can in Massachusetts. And in several countries outside the US;
countries with whoim we have treaties recognizing, among other things,
the validity of marriages performed under their laws.
And a California court just threw out the state's prohibition on gay
marriage. So soon the state with the largest population will have
legal gay marriage. New York will follow.
Change is coming, little one.

The current partners law is flawed, badly, and is one of the reason
why were pushing for the full protections of marriage.
During my cancer treatment, my wife and I seriously discussed
divorcing so I could qualify for more federal and state benefits. It's
not just gays who face these decisions.

Under the new law, gay couples have the same state rights -- and
responsibilities -- as their married peers, ..... But gaps between
state and federal law have led to complications.
.....
No one knows whether assets and property that move between partners --
during their lives together or after a split -- will be subject to
federal gift, income or capital gains taxes down the road. If, for
example, one partner makes $100,000 and the other doesn't earn an
income, community property laws mean that the unemployed partner is
now entitled to $50,000 -- but it's not clear whether the federal
government will impose a gift tax on that money. Gay couples cannot
file joint tax returns.

Don't forget Washington State... its supreme court should be handing
down its decision withing a few weeks... and the case for "defense of
marriage" laws wasn't very strong...
Here in WA, people have to prove that a same-sex couple would HARM the
state....
