Alabama goes meta-stupid with monument to moore's monument |
http://www.nbc13.com/news/2491323/detail.html
WINSTON, Ala. -- Suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore is offering his Ten
Commandments Monument to Congress for Display In the U.S. Capitol.
The offer came nearly three weeks after the granite monument was
removed from the state judicial building to comply with a federal
judge's order.
Moore was suspended for refusing to follow the order, but the 8
associate justices overruled him and had it wheeled out of the
building's rotunda.
Moore's statue has already inspired the creation of a replica, which
will go on a statewide tour next week. But folks in one community
aren't waiting for that centerpiece to make a stand in the faith fight.
The people of Winston County, Alabama have always kind of danced to
their own beat. The county is known as the free state of Winston,
and for good reason.
"Winston County kind of thinks for itself," says resident Bartow Keaton.
Back during the Civil War, Winston County was the only one in Alabama
not to secede from the union. Three hundred soldiers fought
then. Two thirds fought with the union army. One third with the
Confederacy. So it should come as no surprise that when the people of
Winston County jumped into the Ten Commandments debate, it would be in
their own unique way.
"This monument is a monument to the memory of "THE monument", says
Keaton "It was erected by we the people."
Winston's monument is a two-foot tall slab, like a headstone at a pet
cemetary. It sits on the County Courthouse front lawn. A monument
to "the monument," open for anyone's interpretation.
Unlike Chief Justice Roy Moore, the people who put this monument in
front of the Winston County courthouse aren't looking for a court
battle, they say they just want people to think about the 10
commandments, and if people don't want to think about the ten
commandments, they say that's alright, too.
The people who paid for the monument in Winston County hope other
counties will follow their lead and do the same thing.

Now if this isn't idolatry, I don't know what is.
