Porkbusting Palin
The governor of Alaska tells her congressional delegation to clean up its
act.
Alaska has the worst congressional delegation in a pretty lousy Congress.
Senators Ted Stevens and Lisa Murkowski and Representative Don Young —
Republicans all — should be booted out of Congress for all their
earmarking shenanigans.
Bridge to nowhere.
Church to nowhere.
Sigh.
But Republican Gov. Sarah Palin is telling these Three Stooges to become
the Three Scrooges and knock it off with all the earmarks. The state’s
reputation is at stake.
The Anchorage Daily News reported that Palin is seeking less from
Congress.
Palin’s budget chief, Karen Rehfeld, said, “We really want to skinny it
down.”
The state is rolling in oil revenue.
“I think anyone who travels outside of Alaska … typically there is always
a comment about something to do with a bridge or the Permanent Fund
dividend,” Rehfeld said.
Yea, imagine that: Pay for your own roads.
The congressional delegation may heed the warning. Stevens flack, Aaron
Saunders, told the newspaper: “The senator is obviously encouraged the
state has heard his message. The state needs to step up and become more
of a partner.”
The delegation needs to step up and quit “giving” Alaska so much stuff.
Hey, I’ve told Sen. Robert C. Byrd to back off in my state.
