Almost 9 of 10 California parents support sex education |
Almost 90 percent of California parents - no matter their politics,
religion, location or level of education - want comprehensive sex
education for their children, according to a first-ever statewide
survey on the subject.
The results of the poll from the Bay Area's Public Health Institute,
funded by the California Wellness Foundation, and to be released
today, show that 89 percent of parents support a sex education program that
includes information about contraception and protection from sexually
transmitted diseases, as well as abstinence.
What's more, widespread support for such a program crossed all sorts
of cultural fault lines. Among evangelical Christians, 86percent said
they support comprehensive sex education. The subgroup with the lowest
support, at 71 percent, were the "very conservative."

Of course 90% of responsible parents in the Bay Area want their
children to learn about sex education that includes abstinence as the
focal point.

Nice try.
I would hope that most parents would want abstinence to
be the focal point, but I doubt that it's so,
particularly in the Bay Area. What's your evidence?

Why are you so obsessed with abstinence, J Young? What business of
yours it is what people do with their private lives? More: why do you
think that having a sex life is immoral?
Here's a hint, virgin: your dumb "abstinence" program is a failure.
The USA has the highest teen pregnancy and teen abortion rates in the
Western world. When something doesn't work, don't you think that the
decent thing to do is to fix it?
I'll say it again: just because you aren't getting any doesn't mean
that no one should either...
