This newsgroup is called alt.atheism. Why are there so many articles regarding
homosexuality? I should think that the discussions in here would be about the
non-existence of God vs. the existence. Am I wrong?

Social issues that wouldn't be social issues if those on the religious
right would mind their own business, are on-topic in this newsgroup.

Yes. Off-topic noise is currently on the upper hand (I'm happily
helping it along). It will change somewhat after tuesday, but there
will always be a lot on a big, controversial newsgroup like this one.
The stupid christbot trolls we get here think homosexuality is somehow
evil, so the topic will recur.

My theory is that it's related to the number of godly people who make
gay sex the focus of their anger. They seem to think that we should
condemn it as much as they do in order to have a chance at being
"moral." Which would be utterly ridiculous, but then again, most

Well, yes. All atheists agree that there aren't any gods. Only visiting
nimrods who want to save our souls, or save their bruised egos, or
whatever, want to discuss that debate.
Beyond that, there's a world of subjects to discuss.

Some homophobes are so hard up for people to troll with homphobic rants,
and knowing that no religious duty to be a bigot binds atheists in these
questions, they choose a.a. as the most fertile ground outside of explicitly
sexual-identity-based ngs.
