American Atheists Action Alert Update:

MOBILIZE NOW FOR "DECISON DAY" -- MONDAY, JUNE 27, 2005 --
SUPREME COURT TEN COMMANDMENTS RULING!
http://www.atheists.org/decisionday

American Atheists is urging all Atheist, Freethought, Secular Humanist
and other nonbeliever and separationist groups to "mobilize your base"
now for the expected U.S. Supreme Court ruling in two pivotal cases
involving government display of the Ten Commandments.

The high court is expect to rule in VAN ORDER v. PERRY and McCREARY
COUNTY v. ACLU this coming Monday, June 27, 2005. The decision will
likely be announced around 10:30 AM.

We encourage all groups to organize peaceful demonstrations and other
actions to put our position on the ruling -- whatever the outcome -- in
front of the public!

* So far, demonstrations are planned in Washington, DC and the Bay
Area, San Francisco, California. We encourage all groups to conduct
peaceful public actions outside the nearest Federal Courthouse or other
appropriate venue. Make sure that you inform the media of your event!

* In Washington, DC, American Atheists and other
nonbeliever/separationist groups will be on the steps of the U.S.
Supreme Court building on Monday, June 27, beginning at 9:00 AM. We
invite you to attend if possible. Signs and banners will be provided,
or bring your own. There will also be a program of speakers
representing several national and local organizations.

* In San Francisco, CA, the San Francisco Atheists
(http://www.sfatheists.com) are organizing their protest. Check their
web page, or contact Dave Kong, California State Director for American
Atheists at
.

* If your organization is planning a demonstration, let us know. Visit
http://www.atheists.org/decisionday and we will post the information on
our web site. We need to know WHERE your action is planned; WHEN; and
WHO interested people should contact!

Other Action You Can Take...

When the decision is announced on Monday morning, June 27, we expect
the story to be at the top of the "news cycle." Take action, and let
your voice be heard! We encourage you to contact local and national
talk radio/TV call-in programs and state your opinion. Do the same on
newsgroups, e-mail lists, blogs and other forums. Don't forget local
discussion programs, or letters to the editor of your local newspaper.
We need to compete in the "culture war" exchange over this important
issue.

Here are some tips...

* In any comments or written posts, be sure to address the issues
concisely. Be polite -- stick to the issue, not personalities. Make
2-3 cogent points that others can understand. If you are responding to
comments made by someone on the other side of this issue, address their
points -- avoid ad hominem attacks, generalizations and slurs. Stick
to the issue!

* Encourage others in your organization to do the same! We need to
flood the media with commentary which expresses our point of view.
Remember, though, your remarks reflect not only on you, but Atheism and
state-church separation as well!

* Keep up to date! Visit http://www.atheists.org/decisionday for
breaking news about these upcoming events and protests!
