hands of a miserable assassin employed by one of his greedy sons. His
surviving sons will then turn on each other like dogs and devour each other.
The Mongolian North American Empire will be plunged into terrifying chaos as
civil war once again erupts. For the next 100 years, no victor will emerge.
Just decades of unceasing violence and destruction destroying all hope of
economic recovery.
In 2215 someone will find the reset button and hit it. The screen will go
blank for about 60 seconds, then a small text message will appear on the
screen:
"Your Windows Operating System is missing an essential file (msvcirt.dll)
and cannot restart. Please call Microsoft support."

Hey, I started writing a novel back in 2000. People were actually enjoying
reading it.
I'm thinking seriously of setting up a blog site for myself (most likely on
www.atjfaq.com) using www.movabletype.org.
then i'll most likely be keen to republish my sci-fi material there and add
to it.
i'm not an accomplished writer, but here's a sample of what I wrote back
then.

Stacy Timms
Death Sentence
“Would the defendant please rise.” (it was a command rather than a
question.) “This court has found you guilty of murder in the first degree”,
Judge Thomas Wilson intoned firmly, “I hereby sentence you to death by space
travel to a star system 15 light years distant from earth. You will be taken
from this place and within 10 days be launched across the galaxy to a place
where you can do us no more harm.” Judge Wilson rose and stepped down from
his bench. The bailiff roared, “All rise!” As the judge exited to his
chambers, Stacy Timms was led firmly away by the bailiffs. His wife,
Melissa, stood with tears coursing down her cheeks. She reached out her hand
to touch him but couldn’t reach that far. She couldn’t speak. It couldn’t be
true. This couldn’t be happening. She turned to her father and he held her
with jaw clenched tightly.
Melissa Timms had patiently endured 5 months of agony as the trial of her
husband dragged on. The facts were clear. Stacy had killed a man. He had
pleaded self-defence. However, with no witnesses and a blood alcohol level
of twice the legal limit, there was little hope of an acquittal. Still Stacy
had doggedly refused a plea bargain that would have seen him spend 10 years
in prison with him eligible for parole in 5.
And now he was gone. Gone from her life. Melissa sat on the 2-seater couch
in her parents’ front living room. She felt the soft warm rouge leather of
the thick padded seats with a trembling hand. She remembered how it was not
8 years ago, that she and Stacy had been making out here after a date. She
felt a sob well up from deep within her.
She had met young handsome Stacy Timms when she was just 20 years old. She
had been in her final year college, while Stacy had been the mature older
man. He had been 24. They had met at the juice bar of the local health Club.
He had instantly captured her attention. He was a successful programmer for
a local media company, but was making plans to start his own business.
She remembered looking into his blue eyes and seeing how they sparkled as he
talked of his future plans. She felt a twinge of pain again. Why? Why did he
have to be so stubborn? They had had a wonderful life together and now it
was over. She suddenly felt an intense bitterness. The man Stacy had killed
had had it coming. Ted Peters had been her boyfriend in High School until
she had found him two-timing her with Jackie Walters. Ted had walked into
that bar that night and come over to where she and Stacy had been enjoying a
night out together. He had been cordial at first, but soon became abusive
when he realised that Melissa was not interested in speaking to him.
Stacy had been patient and deflective at first, but Ted had not let up. He
had followed them out into the parking lot and continued the abuse. A fight
had been inevitable, Melissa reflected. Ted had not thrown the first punch
and that had counted against Stacy in his defence, but it was not until Ted
had drawn a vicious looking knife that things had got serious. In the
ensuing scuffle, Ted had been stabbed in the heart with his own knife. “The
stupid *****!” Melissa thought with outrage. The system is truly fucked if a
decent man such as Stacy could be convicted for merely defending himself.
The main problem with Stacy’s defence had been his prior record for assault.
The prosecutor argued persuasively that Stacy was a danger to society and
that he might quite easily take another life in a barroom brawl.
Melissa’s, father, Tomas, walked into the lounge with a stiff drink of Jack
Daniels. He handed it to Melissa without a word. In his other hand he held
his own drink. He lifted it and tossed it back in single gulp. He went out
again and returned with the bottle. He poured himself another and tossed
that one back too. Melissa took a small sip and said, “Slow down dad,
please”. Her eyes pleaded with him.

The Plan
Her father sat down heavily opposite her and uttered one word, “*****!” His
son-in-law had become like a son to him. The son he had lost in the Mars
colonial wars.
“What do we do now?” asked Melissa, her blue eyes beginning to swim.
“We bust him out and flee! That’s what we fucking do!”
“What do you mean flee? Where to? And how do we ‘bust’ him out?”
“Let me make some calls, I know some people I think could help us…” her
father trailed off.
“You mean your old SpaceFleet buddies, dad? Do you really think they can
help us?”
“Listen, I was speaking to my old colonel the other day, when I saw the
direction this fucking thing was taking. He has got some of our old team
together. Apparently they want to get off this fucking NAZI planet. They’re
quite organised actually. They have got together a new colony unit, complete
with two biosphere units, and what is even better, authorization to leave
for a new star system some 10 light years distant. I forget the name of it
now, but anyway he suggested that the three of us join his expedition.”
“Well that would be wonderful, but how do we get Stacy out? Do you think we
should petition the judge to allow us to take Stacy with us?”
“***** that idea! That arsehole is just trying to get promoted and Stacy is
his ticket. No, we have to bust him out. And I think I know how.”
“How dad?”
“Well Colonel Jackson mentioned that he could have his special forces team
capture Stacy when they move him from the Justice hall to maximum. This
happens tomorrow at 10am apparently.”
“How do you know all this? I thought prisoner movements were secret?”
“They are, but we still have our ears in various places. I was not going to
tell you this before because I was still hoping that Stacy would be
acquitted, but now… things are different. Desperate situations call for
desperate measures. But I need you to agree, before I make the call.”
“This is a lot to think about. What precisely is going to happen?”
“Well, we intercept the prisoner convoy at about 10:45am as it enters the
long stretch. We kill all the guards and remove Stacy to one of our safe
houses. The actual attack and capture should take no more than 3-5 minutes.
We will need to pack up and move into the safe house tonight. We then need
to lie low for 3 days, because the space mission only gets its launch window
on Thursday 3pm.”
“This is so sudden. I wish you had told me sooner, Dad. Can I tell my
friends that I am leaving?”
“It is better that you don’t tell anyone. Even when we are in space,
otherwise they will deploy their space fleet to recall us. I know this is
incredibly short notice, but we cannot afford anyone to know of our plans.”
“Is this the only way?”
“I have talked to Col. Jackson about this and in his professional opinion,
it is our best option to save Stacy. By the way, this option is going to
cost us everything we have got. We have to buy our way onto the mission for
three people. Kidnapping Stacy is also extra. You know Jackson, nothing for
free from him, but I know he wants to do this. You know how he loves covert
missions.”
“Yeah, but I worry that something will go wrong.”
“Well there is always a risk, but I trust Jackson’s team. You know I was
with him for over 10 years and he is a true professional – nothing left to
chance.”
“What I don’t understand is why does he want our money, surely where we are
going money is not going to help us?”
“That’s a good point, but actually we have to transfer the money tonight if
you okay the mission, because they need to purchase additional equipment and
supplies to accommodate our presence onboard. Fortunately they do have the
space. They just clip on an extra three service modules and load extra food
and medical supplies for us, and of course that does cost.”
“Okay I get that. If you think it is the best way, then I say we should go
for it.”
“I do say that. So you’re sure? I can make the call?”
“Yes”, Melissa paused, “I can’t bear the thought of Stacy dying for this.
And I, like you, am ready to leave Mars for good! This is actually quite
exciting.” Melissa beamed.
Tomas looked over at his daughter and admired her strength. He could see
already that she was feeling much better. Better that she think that. He
knew that the chances of success were not as sure as what he had just
presented. Jackson had told him that the only reason his men would
contemplate this action was because of the high regard they had for himself.
As a major in the Colonial Special SpaceFleet, he had distinguished himself
in putting down the Colonial Mars resistance when they had defied Earth
Command. Ironically, they found themselves now in the same position as the
now extant CMR. Maybe they had been right all along. He shrugged that
thought off and got up. He needed to set the plan in action now and he
needed his full concentration: the next 24 hours was going to be critical.

basically i had the idea that i would write a novel. this was around 1999
that i wrote the beginnings of the prologue.
i was very into reading at that time and i felt keen to be creative myself.
then in 2000 i was running a community web site which gathered some
interest. i decided to publish my fiction as a serial. people sent me emails
wanting more, but then i got distracted overhauling my web site design.
this was before blogging tools were available and up to that point my site
had been constructed using static HTML files. My site was growing large and
I needed a way to be able to update my site design more easily than manually
editing every single page. so my attention got distracted to putting
together a simple template system using PHP. i still use that method to this
day.
i'm thinking about turning movabletype loose on www.atjfaq.com and then
perhaps i'll post my entire story there as well as add to it.
my story idea was kinda weird, i suppose. the concept was that death
sentences were carried out by sending a person into space to a distant Sun
where the capsule would plunge into it, killing the person. hence the title
'Star Death'. it's totally impractical and costs a lot of money, but the
motivation behind it was that it would be impossible to recall the spaceship
and thus no appeals procedure could happen. if the person remained on the
planet, then they had the legal right to file appeals and the government of
the day wanted to dispense with all that. the only loophole they could find
was this method of sending the convicted off (in a state of suspended
animation) to a distant star system.
from there on, i didn't plan stuff out, i just wrote as it came to me.

Personally, I'd have to say that Iraq is turning out exactly as
planned.
You might recall that when we first invaded Iraq, Bush's
"plan" called for splitting the country into three sectors,
each "ruled" by a different Bushbot. It wasn't very popular,
not at all, as the U.N. and international community saw this
as breaking up Iraq into separate states, and they saw value
in maintaining a single state.
So that "plan" got shelved, they go with the single state
solution and, next thing you know, the country is spiraling
into civil war, breaking about amongst ethnic/religious
lines.
It's just terrible. That's what it is, "terrible"! Why, golly,
the country is breaking up exactly along the lines the Bush
administration wanted it to all along!
Yup, things are out of control in Iraq, turning out exactly
as the Bush administration wanted them to turn out!
My complaint with the Bush junta isn't that Iraq isn't going
so well, it's that they invented a need to go into Iraq in the
first place.
My complaint with the Bush junta isn't that their plan isn't
working -- it is working -- it's that they're such evil bastards
that they were willing to spark civil war (and countless
thousands of deaths) to get what they wanted.
My complaint with the Bush junta isn't that they are committed
to an independent Kurdistan, it's that they gladly sentence
tens of thousands to death for their decision -- through a civil
war -- rather than risk their jobs by openly & honestly declaring
their position.

and it hardly ever crashes.
actually, i'm lying it's forever crashing but i need to fix my motherboard.
