Where was it? (I don't think Sharpstown quite qualifies as west Houston.) I
wouldn't mind a chance to get a shot of that.

Much better!
We have 7 in the EAC store.

It was on the north side of Richmond just a few yards west of Hwy 6.
I didn't see what denomination church it was, so I think it was just
generic Christian.

It's obviously been too long since I've been out around West Oaks Mall. (It
could be generic - those all-in-one churches have been sprouting regularly,
over the past decade and change.)

Generic Christian, non-denominational Christian etc tend to be code
words for fundamentalist. In fact anything outside the major
denominations and even some of them as well.

Maybe so, but for some reason, Lakewood Church (which now occupies a remodeled
former city arena - The Summit/Compaq Center) isn't pushing that...yet.

A neat thing about Houston that will probably take the next decade to
filter past our redneck stereotype is that we've had a massive influx of
Indians, Pakistanis and east Asians since the early 90s. There are
areas of town where the street signs all have Chinese translations and
they've got entire shopping malls devoted to Indian and Pakistani food
and clothing. They're concentrating in the west & SW part of town and
seem to having a liberalizing effect on the evangelicals there. The
rabid fundies still have a foothold in the suburbs, like Delay's
hometown of Sugarland, but I really hope that won't last much longer.

Exposure to other cultures is always the death blow to
closed-mindedness.

It's easy to forget that not all christians (and muslims for that matter)
are brainfucked idiots, with so many of them morontheists floating around
here...
....the sad thing is that they either don't want their voices of opposition
(to the fundie cults) to be heard or they do a very very bad job at it.

Probably most are but we have a church one town over that makes a point of
letting everybody know that the GLTBQ crowd is welcome. We even hosted Judy
Fjell there once.
She talked about coming out in her small home town in Wisconsin and after
all teh worry finding out that she was still "Just Judy" to them.
She also sings of havint teen age emotions in a middle aged body, something
I'm experiencing now as someone from 30 years ago has just entered my life

No problem. (I was wondering where they'd have put it if it was west of 6,
but between 6 and Westhollow, there's more than a little space to be taken
along Richmond. I'll have the camera ready for the next time we're out that
