Amusing consent form (in a sad way) |
I came across a "media consent" form today which shows just how far
people will go to keep hold of their cherished beliefs. It comes from
the web site of Whitley Strieber, probably best known for popularizing
the current stereotype of aliens as bald, smooth skinned proctologists
with large almond-shaped eyes. The truly sad paragraph is this one,
which says they'll only speak to people if they're not contradicted at
all:
I consent to the use of this interview only if I
am not held up to ridicule, disparaged, described
as a liar or in any way as a mistaken, deluded,
ill or confused person, or cursed or in any way
portrayed in a manner that I consider damaging to
my personal dignity, and only if no other person in
the program offers an opinion that any statement by
me is false, deluded, mistaken or in any way incorrect.

I think a number of creationists use this same form since they know they
can't present a sound argument.

In our last episode <1xhcavs32x0vr.3j9hfpb5d65d.dlg@40tude.net>, L.
Raymond lumbered into the room and mumbled:

Heh. Notice how much media Strieber gets these days...

Nowhere does it say "I consent to the use of this interview only if this
consent form is not read out during the interview, and only if the
interviewer does not wink knowingly at the camera".

We are witnessing the collapse of intellect. Blame rests with a failure
to roundly repudiate existentialism.
