Never the less, both flowering plants and bees evolved while the
dinosaurs were around. Bees came near the very end of the age of
dinosaurs. Pollen is a very common fossil from the late Jurrasic and
Cretaceous. I think the surprise here is finding a recognizable bee
contemporary with the dinosaurs. Bees came very late. The first
pollinators were supposed to be beetles. I had thought bees arrived in
the Triassic.
Anyway, where did they find Mesozoic amber? I want some!

False lead. Read his link. This was not Mesozoic amber. It was only
15-20 MYO. The article does not say the bees lived with the
dinosaurs.
Well, there is that old adage about the birds and the bees. Is
that close enough?

Now I feel like an idiot. I made a long ramble based on your lying
description. Then I actually read the article. It says
"The authors of the Nature paper describe a mass of orchid pollen
found stuck to the body of an extinct bee that lived 15-20 million

Dinosaurs did not live 15-20 million years ago. This pollen came
WAY after the extinction of the large dinosaurs, which occurred 65
million years ago. The only dinosaur-like creatures around 15-20 MYA
were birds.
Thank you. I swear that I will now read the links before I

For not catching the blatant lie right away. He was creating a
straw man for attack. He claimed that scientists just found out that
flowers and bees coexisted with the dinosaurs. Obviously scientists
were wrong before, since the earliest fossil bees come after the
Mesozoic.
I was defending the straw man, by pointing out that flowers were
known during the days of the dinosaur and as well as insects behaving
like bees. So I knocked down the straw man.
Now, it turns out that the article did not say a fossil bee was
found during the days of the dinosaurs. The article quite clearly said
something completely different. The straw man was just straw. I made
Martinson seem smarter than he was, which was probably all he wanted.
So I am an idiot.

Actually, his description was quite correct (and was even a direct quote
from the article.) The pollen dated from from around 15-20myo but the
genetic differences between it and modern orchids show that the common
ancestor of the orchid that the pollen was from and modern ones lived
around 76-84myo.
Nowhere did he say that BEES lived during the age of the dinos or that
the amber was that old, just that some orchids did/were.

I thought the oldest known "insect in amber" specimen was millions of

Little Shop of Horrors.

Some friars were behind on their belfry payments, so
they opened up a small florist shop to raise the funds.
Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of
God, the rival florist across town thought the competition
was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but
they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close.
They ignored him. He asked his mother to go and ask the
friars to get out of business. They ignored her, too.
So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest
and most vicious thug in town, to "persuade" them to close.
Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd
be back if they didn't close shop. Terrified, the friars did so,
thereby proving that . . .
Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars.
