Object: And then of course, we have the British way of doing things... mandatory school worship of God!
Schools' failure on daily prayers:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/4552382.stm
In Wales, half the schools *break* the law by failing to hold worship
for all their pupils.
In Britain it is compulsory for all state schools to have at the heart
of school life - worship of God. That Act was passed in 1944.
Okay, so that was a while back. In 1988 the Act was amended and
updated.
"The 1988 Education Reform Act strengthened the legislation, further
defining worship in schools as wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian
character."
huh?
Didn't you mean to scrap it completely and instead outlaw religion from
schools?
"It would be idiotic to leave out faith in God in a school when that's
part of our society and when it's part of the Christian foundation of
this country" - Archbishop of Wales Barry Morgan
I see. So in your view, Barry, schoolchildren who subscribe to other
religions or no religion can just go to hell?
Sorry, old boy, but the British school system only caters to
Christians. You'll have to find some other country to live in.
Is that your official viewpoint, Barry?
No, I'm sure you will have some smarmy answer that completely misses
the point. You're so slick. I've heard your reply before you even
formulate it. And it's *****, all *****. And if you had any
intelligence whatsoever, you would know that it is ***** too. I know
you know its *****. I know. You know. But you say it anyway, because
you NEED something.
You NEED young people to be inculcated into your religion, otherwise
your religion is going to die. You NEED. You needy little *****.
~ ~ ~ block quote ~ ~ ~
In a statement on Friday, Welsh Education Minister, Jane Davidson, said
she expected "all schools to meet their obligations under the law".
She added: "All registered pupils attending a maintained school should
take part in collective worship and it is the head teacher's duty to
secure this.
"The systems are in place to identify any shortcomings and to ensure
that the appropriate action is taken." School inspection body Estyn
added: "The matter of collective worship sometimes evokes quite strong
reactions both from those who think it should be absolutely enforced
and those who think it should not.
"The job for schools is to find a way that meets the requirements for a
daily basis."
~ ~ ~ end block quote ~ ~ ~
Jane, ever thought of growing a brain and some ***** backbone,
woman!?
Don't force religion on people. It's just plain wrong. If you don't
know why, I can't explain it to you. Something failed in your
education. You were never taught why it's wrong to force others to
believe a religion against their will. And you have never since
discovered why.
I pity you, Jane. I pity stupid people like you. I really do. Stupidity
is a disease, and you are terminal with it.
It's not about the law. The law is a horse's arse. Apartheid was a law.
Apartheid was dead wrong.
When you uphold iniquituous laws, you make a mockery of yourself. You
lose all respect. You become a nobody. That's what you are, Jane. A
nobody.
Make your life count, Jane. Don't remain an arsehole for the rest of
yours.

why doesn't a single Briton challenge the constitutionality of that in court?
South Africans don't accept *****. We use the court system to eradicate
discrimination. We have a brand new constitutional court which has ultimate
judicial authority. It can strike off laws that are unconstitutional.

Britain doesn't have a constitution. In any case, after many years of
parliamentary politics we've found the best way to deal with laws we
don't like is to ignore them and wait for them to go away. Blasphemy is
supposed to be illegal, when was the last time someone was successfully
prosecuted for it? Also, see my earlier post, its probably
counter-intuitive but I think this law has much to do with Britain
being one of the countries with the largest number of atheists.

Has it ever occurred to you, after a lifetime wasted on drugs, that running
after them all the time is sheer madness?
why don't you just stop? sit on your bed and think and think and think. and
then go to sleep.
when you wake up in the morning and your hand reaches automatically for that

not tomorrow. not for the rest of your life.

i'll let you have a glass of wine with your lunch / brunch, sometime after

bowl of oatmeal and light polite breakfast conversation. no swearing before
noon.
your life is about to change. you're not in charge anymore. i am.
there's no discussion about what you want. you'll do as you're told. AND
you'll like it. any questions?

Don't remain an arsehole for the rest of
yours.

You have - very un-Christian attitude - you need adjustment.

In 1988 the Act was amended and
updated.

"The 1988 Education Reform Act strengthened the legislation, further
defining worship in schools as wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian
character."

huh?

Didn't you mean to scrap it completely and instead outlaw religion from
schools?

This is kind of interesting.
I posted this article a short time ago in a thread as a response to
someone that posted this one:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,19269-1957467,00.html
I think the majority of schoolchildren in Britain don't believe in god
precisely because of this daily worship guff that they have to
tolerate. My contention is that it could be because of America's
separation of Church and state that a laughable 90-odd percent of
Americans believe in God. My partner's 15 year-old says that her class
has had their religious education (that's compulsory too) teacher in
tears several times because of their ridiculing of the notion that god
exists.

Odd that Britain has mandatory worship in schools, yet is far less
religious than the US. Perhaps there's something to be learned from
that.... <G>
