Suppose God uses evolution in many of His creative processes in the universe
and early formation of life on Earth and other planets, and that many modern
lifeforms evolved?
Does the very suggestion God created the very concept of evolution and uses
evolutionary processes as He sees fit, meet with objections on your part?

1:, you can offer no evidence for the existence of a god.
2: you can offer no evidence that evolution could not happen without divine

If there is a "creator" it isn't anything like the angry, foot stomping,
smoke belching killer-god of the bible or 10,000 other known, living,
almighty gods out there. But then we still have the problem of who or what
created the creator? Not to mention there is no evidence for a magical
creation.

Glibly dismissing the possibility of a higher intelligence behind the
elegant design of the universe and its scientific laws and by using
ridiculous comparisons is no different than ridiculing any other scientific
possibility ahead of its time. Dismissing higher intelligence in the
universe with the wave of a hand and unwillingness to even consider is
closed minded. Throughout the ages science has been swimming upstream
against such unreasoning ridicule.

Only if you're too stupid to grasp that there is no difference because
at the moment they are BOTH unjustified, question-begging
presumptions.
The fact that you believe in one but not the other makes no
difference. Both are unjustified presumptions.
All that can be done with BOTH of hem is to dismiss them, and for
exactly the same reason.
And why the standard theist lie about closed-minded when until you
demonstrate its existence there is nothing to be closed-minded about?
It is only a "scientific possibility ahead of its time" is there is
any reason even to propose it, which there isn't because it is merely
a religious belief with nothing whatsoever that leads one to suspect
it could be anything more.
Science simply follows where evidence leads.
Provide evidence for this hypothetical deity and it will be
investigated. But since there is nothing that remotely suggests it, it
remains one of the bazillions of bridges to be crossed if we ever get
there.

That's the heart of the matter, isn't it? The Christers complain
that we don't take them seriously, when the fact of it is that
they don't even have the first clue about the rules of the game.
Put simply, if you can't even offer up a logically-plausible
theory in the first place, even thinking about taking you
seriously is a serious waste of time. If you /can/ offer up such a
theory but can't offer any ways to differentiate between the world
with and without what you're proposing, again it's a waste of
time. Finally, if you've got a testable hypothesis but all the
evidence contradicts your hypothesis or is more easily explained
by something more mundane, then it's game over, man.
That's exactly where we are with religious superstition. Most of
the time, nobody ever bothers to step up to the plate. On the rare
occasions when they do, they almost always strike out. And the few
times somebody actually manages to put a bat on a ball, it's an
easy pop fly to the shortstop. Even their defense sucks *****--they
can never throw a pitch over the plate, and when they actually
manage to do so, it's always a hit and often a run.
I swear, it's like watching little leaguers try to play a
``serious'' game against the World Series champions.
Cheers,
b&

No. There is nothing to suggest that a supernatural force is needed to
trigger, of control, evolution.
All the evidence is that evolution works in two ways, there is the slow, steady
evolution, and the sudden spurts,
The slow, steady change, is what we see, during periods of environmental
stability, while we see the sudden spurts during environmental upheaval.
What you have to remember is that we are talking about geological time, where
ten thousand years is just about instantaneous.
Given that small understanding, there is nothing to indicate that the "cause" of
evolution, be it slow or rapid, has any cause other than nature.

The Universe is. You have to actually show it was designed. Start by
telling us what design means. Then tell us how to determine if
something is designed. Then tell us how you can detect design if
everything is designed.

What if I told you that I don't think the universe is elegant at all?
Even the word "elegant" itself is completely subjective. As far as I
know, the universe is a chaotic mess of energies and particles obeying
nothing more than the laws to which they are bound, laws that we
describe using "science," and "physics," but which can be observed with
no knowledge of any such constructions.
I dropped a bottle of paint and it splattered into the shape of a
beautiful flower. Was that, too, the work of God? I certainly did not
consciously create it. Yet you assert that the form something takes is
enough an explanation of its origins to be accepted as fact.
Until you can make a statement regarding your beliefs that is rooted in
observations that can be shared by all of us, you are wasting your time
and ours.

Suppose God uses evolution in many of His creative processes in the universe
and early formation of life on Earth and other planets, and that many modern
lifeforms evolved?
Does the very suggestion God created the very concept of evolution and uses
evolutionary processes as He sees fit, meet with objections on your part?
It is not more (and no less) scientific than saying that God uses
gravity to make the planets move in their orbits.

Where is your evidence that there is a god?
If you can provide scientifically valid evidence that there is a
creator god who makes things like universes, and planets, and life
forms, then you know, I really think you'll be onto something.

And suppose that somewhere over the rainbow dreams really do come
true?
Does the very suggestion God created the very concept of
evolution and uses evolutionary processes as He sees fit, meet
with objections on your part?
Yes. On various grounds.
First and foremost, the very notion is so logically ludicrous that
it really doesn't even merit consideration in the first place. At
absolute best, only this particular corner of the universe could
have been ``created.'' If one is to assume that everything had a
creator, then the creators themselves need creators. If the
creators don't need creators, then not everything needs a creator
and therefore it's first necessary to figure out whether or not
something requires a creator before pondering what that creator
might have been.
Secondly, you credit the epynymous god of Christianity with
this act of creation. That particular god is the most vile
and despicable monster of all the ancient gods I'm aware
of. It's a vicious, deceitful, and malevolent war god who'd go
toe-to-toe with Ares--and fight much, much dirtier, with no honor
whatsoever. Just for kicks, after the battle, it'd rape all the
girls as it roasted their fathers alive on a spit; then, it'd eat
the men and drink the women's blood. The boys would be forced to
do all the preparation and serving for the feast. Even Homer's
various monsters weren't half as nasty.
So, yeah. I certainly object to the completely unsupported
suggestion that the universe is being run by some especially
horrific Bronze-Age superstitious phantasm. I mean, wouldn't you
object to a suggestion that Darth Vader rules this particular
quadrant with an iron fist?
Cheers,
b&

Sorry, but evolution doesn't need you to believe in it to be true.

First, you should realize that "specie" refers to coinage. Thus, I can
take a US silver dollar to the bank and have it changed into 4
twenty-five cent pieces (quarters, in 'merkin).
But that's not what you meant, is it?
OK. One species changing into another. First, your example of a frog to
cat is ridiculous. In fact, only creationists think such a drastic
change is possible. Biologists know it is thoroughly impossible. In
fact, should such an event occur, it would disprove much of
evolutionary theory.
But species DO give rise to other species, and sometimes quite rapidly.
In the 1800's, seeds from the North American cordgrass _Spartina
alterniflora_ were inadvertently brought to England. They germinated
and began growing. They soon interbred with the local cordgrass,
_Spartina maritima_. These are easily seen to be two seperate species,
because the offspring are sterile. However, like all plants, they can
reproduce asexually. So the new species, named _Spartina anglica_,
began spreading thoughout England, and soon made its way to the
Continent. It eventually experienced a chromosomal mutation (it doubled
its chromosome number- very, very common in plants). This gave rise to
yet another new species, _Spartina townsendii_. Interestingly this
species is completely fertile, and reproduces sexually.
So, there we have two speciation events within the span of a single
human lifetime.
I fully expect you to admit the validity of evolution, since I have
shown you not one but two methods by which one species can give rise to
another (hybridization and mutation). This combination is so common in
plants it has its own name- allopolyploidy.
HTH HAND
Chris
