To blind members of the Bush-I-Do religion, "massive federal aid" means
Bush told another of his lies. It doesn't mean the same thing as
appropriate and prompt help actually arriving.
All we've seen is a convoy of fifty trucks with some supplies, which
didn't arrive until Friday. That hardly counts as "massive".
Apparently all the helicopters are in Iraq, so they couldn't bring aid
in. Meanwhile, stories of rape and murder are starting to spill out of
the Superdome now that the crowd of thousands, who have apparently had
only two meals, is no longer imprisoned there.
Stories of police (those who didn't flee when the storm started
arriving that is) and troops inapropriately shooting people are also
surfacing. I'm not sure it was the best plan to turn battle-weary
troops fresh from the stresses of Iraq loose among understandably angry
and desperate citizens in New Orleans.
Arguably its better than nothing, but since everything that's worth
looting has probably been looted by now, are these guys just supposed
to replace absent and fatigued police officers (who are as stressed as
the citizens), and stand around looking mean in dusty desert fatigues?

I don't know anymore. Don't look at me. I'm ready to give up and leave the

of us that came out reasonably okay.

Let me guess - you used a pharmacy where you couldn't see them so then you

That moron is always wrong. The only thing he's ever demonstrated
conclusively on Usenet is that he sees what he wants to see and lies
about everything else.
Anheuser-Busch is delivering 2.5 million cans of water/wk to
Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. Additionally it has donated a
million dollars already and will match up to another million in line
with whatever its independent wholesalers give.
Meanwhile all that George Bush has given is his usual promises only
some of which are tardily starting to materialize.
He's a president who stood amid the aftermath of 9/11 and promised he
would set it right. Now we have something on the same kind of level
but far worse than 9/11 and what is overwhelmingly apparent is that in
four years this nation under his leadership hasn't taken even one
effective step towards addressing large-scale urban tragedy with even
an amateur degree of competence and Bush is finally forced to admit the
truth.
Now we're learning that because of his blind stupidity in squandering
billions of tax dollars and other resources in Iraq, his administration
cut the legs out from work that might have prevented or at the very
worst ameliorated this specific disaster in New Orleans. Apparently
his idea of open government is opening it up to the point where
everything falls through the cracks. His idea of less government is
spending less where it really is needed.
It's depressing and frustrating to see this from afar. It's got to be
infinitely worse to be living it. Its testimony not to any god or any
president, but to the grit and determination of people in the afflicted
region that they're are finding the strength to keep going. More power
to them, I say.
Clearly the Internet's biggest liar, hypocrite and coward is as
incapable of grasping that as he is of grasping anything else that's
spelled out to him at grade-school level.
Hang in there Mark. It will take a long, long time to get things
right, but they will get right despite Bush's blundering stupidity.
I'm just hoping the scars aren't too disfiguing. Above all I hope the
electorate has a long-enough memory on this occasion that they will not
easily forget what Bush did to them in his lame duck years.

Ohhhhhhh, I see now. So what you saw was 100% local. I see helicopters going
over, back and forth, back and forth all day long. Are they local store stuff
according to you? Are all the MRE's local stuff? Is the Coast Guard local
stuff?
Are all the National Guard units protecting NO now local NG? According to
rambo, our NG is all in Iraq. Now what's wrong with this picture? Can NG from
all 48 contiguous states operate in NO with out state/federal authorization?

There are others who are starting to wonder where Bush has killed more
