Court: GOP Activist Cannot Withdraw Sex Guilty Plea
Ankeney Pleaded Guilty To Attempted Sexual Assault In 2002
DENVER --
A former Republican activist and lawyer serving 8 years in prison for
attempted sexual assault on a girl he met on the Internet cannot
withdraw his guilty plea, the Colorado Court of Appeals ruled
Thursday.
Randal David Ankeney of Colorado Springs pleaded guilty in July 2002.
He had been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old Fountain
girl and a 17-year-old Colorado Springs girl in unrelated encounters.
Prosecutors said Ankeney provided drugs and alcohol to the Fountain
girl, photographed her topless and sexually assaulted her in July
2001.
Prosecutors dropped six other charges against Ankeney as part of the
plea agreement.
