School Officials Ban Photo Of Female Student Wearing Tuxedo
http://www.wftv.com/education/4232606/detail.html?rss=orlc&psp=irresistible
The picture of a lesbian student dressed in a tuxedo will not be
permitted in her school's yearbook, the Clay County school officials
Principal Sam Ward of Fleming Island High School made the initial
decision to pull Kelli Davis's picture from the yearbook, saying he did
so because Davis, who is openly gay, was dressed in boy's clothes.
The county school board and its superintendent backed the decision,
which was debated at a Thursday night School Board meeting attended by
about 200 people.
Fifteen of the 24 people who spoke at the meeting were in favor of
Davis and nine supported the principal's decision.
Kelli's mother, Cindi Davis, asked the board to reverse Ward's
decision.
"This is not to be treated as a gay right's issue," her mother said.
"Rather it's a human rights issue."
Some applauded Ward's decision, including Karen Gordon, who said, "When
uniformity is compromised, then authority no longer holds."
School officials have maintained that sexual preference is not the
issue, it is gender. They said since Davis did not follow the rules on
dress, she will not be in the yearbook.
Bruce Bickner, an attorney representing the School Board, said there is
no written dress code for senior pictures, but also said the district
gives principals the authority to set standards.
The board took no action to reverse Ward's decision and Superintendent
David Owens said the decision will stand.

When I was in high school 20 years ago, girls dressing in boy's clothes --
jeans, shirts that button on the right -- were all the fashion rage.

I wonder if she realizes just how much of a communist Ms. Gordon sounds like?

I remember being caught by the principal when I worked at a local high
school and ordered to get my picture taken. I sat there and took the pen out
of my pocket but about the third time the woman asked me to smile I told her
to take the picture because I was leaving in about 10 seconds.
That was the year I declined taking part in a "secret pal" christmas
exchange and the school shrink insulted me for not taking part.
The "I shoulda said" didn't hit until a few days later.

Hey! Unauthorized thinking for yourself is punishable. It could lead
to all kinds of things -- like the end to religion and thus the worthless
priesthood.
Can't let _that_ happen, now, can we?

I remember Shydavid getting dragged in front of a school repremand
because he had a sharpened stick about one foot long or so. The
fucked "adults" (who were less intelligent and more childish than
any of the students, largely) expressed shock and dismay that someone
would bring a sharp stick to school.
When Shydavid politely inquired about the 10,000 or so sharpened
sticks everyone else had, they got indignant -- then threatened to
suspend him for a day after he informed them that pencils are
sharpened sticks.
Fucking school administrators on the whole aren't very bright.

It would be difficult for a parent to show damages, though.
What _is_ is with hate filled Christians that they can't stand anyone?
And the absurdity of "bay clothes" and "girl clothes" some times is stupid,

Ex post facto? I hope the parents sue.
It would be difficult for a parent to show damages, though.
What _is_ is with hate filled Christians that they can't stand anyone?
And the absurdity of "bay clothes" and "girl clothes" some times is
stupid,
too. A lot of clothes are unisex and a tux doesn't have to be "male." I
remember going to Catalina Island once and seeing a girl in a ping tux on
roller scates on the sidewalk along the pier.
Who ever invented the dress needs a beating. Frankly I don't have the legs
to carry off wearing one and Ive never understood why girls "should" wear
dresses when wearing trousers makes far more sense whatever way you look at
it. Unless the people saying "should" get some kind of kick out of a female
being unable to do certain things due to the restriction of her clothing.

Not even a really long prairie skirt type of thing? Ankle length?

I have a guy friend who has for years been dedicated to a war on pants.
He vastly prefers skirts (which seem to be somewhat trendy among
certain guys on the East Coast these days). I guess I'm in favor of
people wearing whatever the heck they want myself.

Until I discovered BDUs a few months ago I thought just about the opposite.
Pants can be very restrictive.
Then I had to buy a pair of dark pants for an EMT class and found the
usually expensive BDU's (the thing with all the pockets, I think BDU means
Battle Dress Uniform) for ten bucks a pop.
Wow, they look funny but are amazingly flexable and comfortable. I even
bought some BDU shorts for summer.

Emotional damage to the student. Punitive damages.

They can't stand anyone who isn't them. Christianity is very insular.

How many musicals have you seen (from the 30s, 40s and 50s) in which
women wore tails?
About the only thing still really looked at askance is a man wearing a
skirt or dress. (Not that most women wear them these days.)
