Hopefully, they won't drop cheney. He's the weakest link and can be used
against the repugs just like Newt G. was some years ago. Keep him and watch
this assholes take the rest down with him.

they can't drop cheney. this administration's approach to every
challenge is to hold the line, not show "weakness". so they'll keep
cheney. or kill him. or come close...of course not really..maybe a
faux heart attack will be sufficient for him to "withdraw". but I doubt
it.

If they get rid of Cheney, then they can appoint a new president.

Problem is that he wouldn't stand an icecat's chance in hell of
getting elected in 2008. It seems like that's a good slot for the VP,
which confirms to me that the Dems aren't looking to Hillary to run
because it seems that Edwards is a viable candidate for president.
Either that, or they're throwing in the towel with Frankenstein and
letting Edwards & Hillary run next time.

He sure as hell isn't a liberal either, and he *is* a Republican.
(As a side note he lost his last re-election bid largely because he
spent his time and money futilely attacking his opponent Chuck Schumer
for purportedly being a liberal, which putzhead D'Amato somehow failed
to grasp is not percieved as a negative in New York, rather than
giving any reason to vote for himself).

All present Republicans are conservative. The party has moved so far to
the
right, there is no place for a liberal Republican anymore. They are voting
Democrat
or not voting - that is if they have any self-respect.

You need to qualify that. Most present Republicans are neo-Conservative because
the small-government libertarian conservatives like Goldwater and Houghton are
being driven out by the big-government totalitarian theocrats. The modern GOP
is openly hostile to the principles of conservatism.
"The religious factions will go on imposing their will on others unless the
decent people connected to them recognize that religion has no place in public
policy. They must learn to make their views known without trying to make their
views the only alternatives... We have succeeded for 205 years in keeping the
affairs of state separate from the uncompromising idealism of religious groups
and we mustn't stop now. To retreat from that separation would violate the
principles of conservatism and the values upon which the framers built this
democratic republic." - Senator Barry Goldwater (R-AZ), Senate Speech, 15
