Give me the storm and tempest of thought and action,
rather than the dead calm of ignorance and faith.
Banish me from Eden when you will, but first let

happiness is the only good, reason the only torch,
justice the only worship, and love the only priest.

Nope. Seems legit to me. I mean, you did enter the Abuja Lottery, didn't
you? I know I did!
Nope. They said that they drew my name at random from a website.
"For security reasons, you are advised to keep your winning information
confidential till your claims is
processed and your money remitted to you in whatever manner you deem fit to
claim your prize. This is part of our precautionary measure to avoid double
claiming and unwarranted abuse of this program by some unscrupulous
elements."
Seems like your claims is protected, and they have precautionary measure.
I just don't want to call a number they give me and find out that it's
a trick number. I never heard of this contest.

Dense aren't you. There is no lottery. You didn't win. If you call the
number it will charge you $50 a minute while they put you on hold for 2
hours. Like Miss Cleo used to do. First 2 minutes free! Next hour at $39.95
per MINUTE. Then when you've paid $500 to connect, they'll ask for info,
which stupid people actually give out, like a bank account or a blank check.
Then they ask for a "processing fee" of $2-300 dollars to give you the
millions they "have for you". Then .... you'll have to imagine the rest.

Dense aren't you? You just repeated what I wrote above... I have no
intention of calling them for exactly that reason.
This just seems to be another more financially dangerous version of
the Nigerian scam - except that nobody gets killed in this one. I call
it more damgerous because more people will fall for it and lose money.

People DO fall for these scams or they wouldn't exist. I wonder if
there should be a DO SPAM list, so as to direct spammers directly to
their prey and leave the rest of us alone.
A supermarket clerk, seeing my ID badge asked me if there was anything
she could do about something like $350.00 she ran up trying to collect
on a sweepstakes that said she won. I told her that sorry, you won't
win sweepstakes you didn't even enter. It was hard not to insult her
and I didn't, I was polite and explained that lots of people get
scammed, and if she had dreams, get a few lotto tix or go to a casino
- where it's possible to win.

Gee, it's in Nigeria! That's new. The scam isn't, though:
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/scams/lottery.htm
is pretty much exactly what you got, and it's a year or two old.
What amazes me is that these scams are so transparent and so
unsophisticated, and yet people keep falling for them, over and over
again:

buy tickets for a lottery but win it anyway?"

An observation remarkably similar to one of the perennial themes in this
