Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Another pro-abortion group has
endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid to become the Democratic nominee
for president. The endorsement from the NOW political action committee
comes on the heels of an endorsement from Emily's List, the largest
political group in the nation.
Noting that the House of Representatives has the first woman speaker,
NOW chairman Kim Gandy told LifeNews.com in a statement that this is
the right time for the first female president.
In endorsing the New York senator, Gandy said Clinton "has a long
history of support for women's empowerment, and her public record is a
testimony to her leadership on issues important to women in the U.S.
and around the globe."
She said Clinton has worked hard "to advance the civil and human
rights of women and girls."
Gandy said the NOW membership would "conduct voter registration
drives, make phone calls and go door to door to encourage women to
vote" for the pro-abortion former First Lady.
However, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser says
Clinton's pro-abortion views don't represent women.
"Everyone is talking about the possibility of having a Madame
President in 2008, but few are asking how well she would represent the
majority of American women," Dannenfelser said recently.
"Though her campaign is capitalizing on her status as the only woman
candidate, Clinton's extreme position in abortion puts her out-of-step
with the majority of American women," she explained.
"These same women, whom many claim will carry Hillary to victory in
2008, actually support commonsense measures like parental involvement
before minors can have abortions and a ban on partial-birth
abortions," Dannenfelser added.
Polls also show the former first lady is out of touch with most women.
A June 2003 poll conducted by the pro-abortion Center for the
Advancement of Women found 51% of women took a pro-life position
opposing most or all abortions while only 30 percent said it should be
generally available.
A September 2003 survey conducted by the Polling Company found 54
percent of women selected one of three different pro-life views
opposing all or almost all abortions. Only 39 percent backed abortion.
Interestingly, pro-abortion leaders are split on the presidential
candidates.
Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina recently received the backing of
Kate Michelman, the longtime president of NARAL, another top pro-
abortion organization while Emily's List is backing Clinton.
Ironically, NOW made the endorsement announcement at the home of Alice
Paul, an early feminist leader who opposed abortion.
She opposed the later trend of linking the Equal Rights Amendment with
abortion calling abortion "the ultimate exploitation of women."

"Pro-choice" does not equal "pro-abortion".
"Anti-abortion" does not equal "pro-life".
"Sound Of Trumpet" DOES equal "dishonest fuckwad".
