Former Atheist Darwinian Philosopher Explains his ‘Conversion’ in a
New Book
Antony Flew “followed the evidence”, "empirical evidence,” to belief
in “a god”
By Hilary White
LONDON, November 2, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Former Darwinian atheist
philosopher Antony Flew has published a new book, “There Is a God: How
the World's Most Notorious Atheist Changed His Mind,”, to explain his
move from being one of the world’s leading exponents of the pure
materialist Darwinian philosophy to belief in the existence of a
personal deity who created the universe.

I'd never heard of this guy before his "defection".
If Dawkins, say, announced that he'd become a
Believer, I might pay attention.

Yes, and what was so 'notorious' about Flew?

Yes, and what was so 'notorious' about Flew?

He became a theist.
He was hardly notorious before he was tricked into it, and while he
was not senile.

I can't believe he named himself "The World's Most Notorious Atheist".
Honestly, who had heard of him before this change of philosophies?

Maybe he's more noted in other parts of the world, but I never heard of
Flew until recently either.
So one atheist turns religious. Big deal. I haven't seen any statistics
on this, but I'd be willing to bet that on any given day, more theists
become atheists, than atheists become believers.

I agree. Because of all of the bad press we get, many atheists are
reluctant to reveal their lack of belief. I'm not.

He did no such thing. He's a semi-senile old man who doesn't
understand much about science. Due to mistaken information, he has
concluded that deism is likely.
That prompted a pack of immoral, ghoulish Christers to descend on him,
trying to make him their poster boy for ex-atheism.
Here's a video of one such lowlife (Lee Strobel) interviewing the poor
guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeCt1rK9MEc
He didn't actually write the book reference, and has certainly never
referred to himself as the world's most notorious atheist. He has no
involvement with the internet, and thus knows only what he's been told
by these liars-for-Christ about the effect of his "conversion".

Isn't it interesting that Antony Flew was not the World's Most
Notorious Atheist when he was an atheist, but only became the
World's Most Notorious Atheist when he was no longer an atheist?
The people inflating Antony Flew's reputation appear to have
learned their concept of history from Ingsoc: The true history
is not the one that accurately recounts past events, but rather
the one that best serves the interests of the Party.
What they needed was a famous atheist who had become a theist.
What they got was almost as good: an atheist who has become a
theist, and an audience who will believe Antony Flew was a famous
atheist -- though they've never heard of him -- if somebody tells
them so in an authoritative tone of voice.

Thanks.
Very interesting and somewhat enlightening in a sense.
When W.C. Fields was lying on his death bed a friend walked in and
found him reading a Bible.
The friend was surprised, knowing that Fields was an atheist and made
a remark regarding the circumstance.
Fields looked at him and replied <W.C. Fields voice here> "I'm looking
for a loophole."
There may be some of that here.
Growing old can be a frightening experience for many people.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is the sense of smugness
the xians have about one of their insipid stereotypes about us coming
true.
That being said, I'd love to hear Flew's book after next will be

We can hit them back with the fact that Flew rejects Christianity.

To be published posthumously, of course.

What you mean "we," kimosabe? Antony Flew can be whatever the ***** he
wants, and if he has converted to a brand of theism and theists take a
measure of satisfaction in this, surely, they have their reward. The
