Any Denominations Accepting Evolution? |
The Pope made some wishy-washy pronouncement several years ago
regarding evolution with some very vague language that was open to
various interpretations. Are there ANY religious denominations that
clearly state their acceptance of abiogenesis and evolution as the
mechanisms of creation which God set in motion at the instant of the
Big Bang?

I'd be very surprised if any of them have a stated doctrine to that
effect. I imagine most of them are with the Pope in saying "God
did it, but we leave it up to science to describe how it unfolded."
Getting burned on that heliocentrism thing should have taught them
a lesson.

Stated doctrine, no... since they all follow the bible. However, both
protestants and most lutheran demoninations accept evolution, and I
believe abiogenesis as well.

That taught the Catholics a lesson. But if you read Steven Hawking or
Sydney Fox they are pretty well up to date. The Pope's scientists are
Jesuits and they accept pretty much all of it as how God did it.
It's the more recent breakaways like Evangelical Fundamentalists who
reject it. And this is a peculiarly American problem which has turned
the US into an international joke.

Yeah it's quite odd that only in the US does that crap happen. In any of
the other places where there might be freaks in power to deny evolution,
they don't even have classrooms, electricity or running water.

The pope first approved belief in evolution in the 1950's, and it was
recently re-affirmed. Most every religion, with the exception of the
Xtian fundamentalists, accept science in general, and evolution in
particular.
