Though I consider Bush to be an incompetent dolt, to state that 'authorized'
the attacks of 9-11 smacks of an Oliver Stone movie script.
First, President Dipshit isn't intelligent enough to comprehend a plan like
9-11. To say he was involved in it in any way is giving him too much credit;
Second, there is always the 'fringe' that come up with such preposterous
scenarios. The same sort of things were said about Pearl Harbor.

I totally agree. This has been a common argument I have with my friends
that have conspiracy theories. I like to ask them, "Is Bush genuine?".
They usually say no. Then I say, "Well, he is genuinely stupid." :-)

An attorney friend of mine dealt with Shrub quite a bit when he was governor
of Texas. (He is affectionately known as Lawyer Larry among the firefighters
in my department.)
According to Larry, Shrub is, unfortunately 'genuine' and not too bright.

The Shrub regime involved in the plotting? Unlikely.
That they knew in advance and chose to say nothing,
seeing it as an opportunity to gain access to Kazakh

My guess is that is if it was anything like that, they expected the
hijacking but not the planes crashing into the WTC or the Pentagon.
Previous hijackers had landed and taken hostages (apart from the one
which crashed into the sea after running out of fuel).
In other words things went horribly wrong.
They'd been looking for an excuse to invade Iraq and as you say they
used this as it, in spite of the fact that the hijackers were mostly
disaffected Saudis and none of them were Iraqi.
They published the hijackers' names very quickly, before they had a
chance to do much investigation. A passport surviving the crash and
fire found on the edge of the rubble? Yeah, right.
IMO things like this confirm that they knew *something* before it
happened.
But I doubt even the Bush junta would be that callous.

You mean like they wouldn't ship suspected terrorists to countries
that would use torture to extract information?
You mean like they wouldn't hold people for months, even years,
without even bringing charges against them?
No, this government wouldn't do anything 'callous'.

Did it help or hinder Bush's turning the country into more of a

Would a lot of the current draconian laws have been passed without
9/11?
Would we be at war now without 9/11?
