Object: Anyone else enjoying it?
When I first became aware of the issue of gay marriage I had a neutral
opinion. I listened to the pros and cons and was a little alarmed at
the claims that it would endanger the family unit and cause general
moral decay. After all I am a heterosexual, happily married person
with 2 wonderful children - I wouldn't want anything to jeopardize our
family unit.
I decided to investigate these claims and guess what? I found
nothing. I see no evidence that allowing gays to marry will in any
way harm my family, anyone's family, my marriage, anyone else's
marriage or any future marriage.
What I did find lurking behind the curtains (pay no attention to that
man!) was religionists. When I observed their reaction I realized
supporting gay marriage was the right thing to do.
When I saw an obviously very happy gay couple on TV I thought "Why
shouldn't they be miserable like the rest of us...?" - _Just
Kidding!!!_ . I thought "If its what they want and it makes them as
happy as they appear to be - why not?"
Now for my confession. I find I am getting a perverse pleasure in
seeing the religionists faces contort with hatred, revealing
themselves as the truly distasteful people they really are, as they
denounce the evils of gay marriage.
I enjoy watching them couch there hate speech in moral, religious
camouflage.
Here is one of the funniest arguments I have heard:
Reverend J. Faber MacDonald, Bishop for the Catholic Church of
Southern New Brunswick, said that gay marriages are counterfeit.
"What would happen to the economic system if we allowed counterfeit
money into the stock exchange? It would collapse," said MacDonald.
"The same thing will happen to the legal system if we allow
counterfeit marriages into our legal system."
See? Isn't this fun! With powerful arguments like that who can help
but laugh and enjoy themselves?
I also find it very amusing when people say silly things like this:
"The people of Canada have been hijacked by the courts, and we have
become too complacent with things like that," said Susan Hall, a
resident of Fredericton Junction.
Majority rule only applies when it doesn't interfere with the rights
of a minority. The courts and our Bill of Rights are there to protect
us from a dictatorship of the majority. I for one am thankful they
are there and have the courage to stand up for what is right.
Here is a facinating (Not!) interview with one of the sanctimonious
crew:
http://www.marriagecanada.ca/davidmainse.html
Maybe we should make it illegal for chruches to discriminate against
gays? They would really have conniptions then - that would really be
fun ! I think that is what they are really afraid of.

You obviously are a lesbian, and a Satanist. You're
also a Communist, but that goes without saying.
Saddam Hussein will use gay marriage to plan
another 9/11 attack on your children. They will
all die if homosexuals are given equal rights.
Christianity can not survive a happily married gay
couple.
You seek to destroy Christianity. You hate families,
as there was no such thing as families before the
Ten Commandments, and if it weren't for Jesus we'd
have no laws.

Frankly, I don't _care_ whether homosexuality to innate or not. I don't
think Japanese have a genetic proclivity to eat crickets. What I do know
is that nobody is going to get me to put one those things in my mouth.
What fascinates me is people's priorites. To a conservative, murder is
like jaywalking. We've just murdered something like 10,000 Iraqi
civilians and 15,000 of their soldiers this year by preemptively invading
their land for -- zip, nada, nothing. For lies. Oops. A few eggs get
broken sometimes. Screw 'em. They didn't have Jesus anyway.
But conservatives are going to roll sleeplessly in their beds at night
fearing that somewhere homosexuals will feel good about themselves in
committing to a lasting relationship that is recognized as such.
Ironic, isn't it?

You see, if gay marriage is allowed, all those supposedly heterosexual
people out there will abandon their marriages, and run off with some
guy or gal of the same sex, as the temptation to do so will be
irresistable--after all, if it wasn't more fun than being heterosexual,
we wouldn't call those people "gay," would we? No more babies will be

marriage or any future marriage.

Here is a facinating (Not!) interview with one of the sanctimonious
crew:

Maybe we should make it illegal for chruches to discriminate against
gays? They would really have conniptions then - that would really be
fun ! I think that is what they are really afraid of.

I think you're right. If hating gays becomes illegal, who will be left to
be targets of all that vitriol? They can't get away with hating women or
racial/ethnic groups openly (although they do discriminate against them in
subtle ways, they aren't happy unless they can flaunt their hatred like a
prize.) How wonderful Christian love truly is.

The issue is over the government sanctioning the marriage -- not gays
getting married. After all, gays can and always have been able to get
married. What they lack is the ability to have the *legal* status of
"married". Asking for this right from the government entails asking
the government to endorse and/or recognize homosexuality as a
legitimate lifestyle choice. That is why those that do not think that
homosexuality is a legitimate practice or life style choice are so
up-in-arms about it.
The real truth is that the government shouldn't be going around
putting a seal of approval on any life style decisions, and that is
all this whole issue is -- the gay community as a political minority
group weilding the government to further gain acceptance for and
otherwise validate their life style. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not
saying that toleration for homosexuality (or for any life style
choices) isn't a desirable trait in society. But, I do think that
this has very little to do with gays really wanting to get married,
per se, and more to do with trying to make homosexuality seem as
"normal" as possible. In fact, there is probably even more to it than
that in terms of other issues (such as adoption) and gaining
additional credibility.
At any rate, marriage has always been an informal practice that has
existed for centuries. When such a couple breaks up, it is then that
the government must determine how to handle their separating and the
ensuing disputes (such as how to divy up the assets, what to do with
the children, and so on). With the way marriages come and go in this
day and age and the often childless nature of the gay life style
choice, I think it might just be time to do away with the antiquated
informal practice of getting married and replace it with more formal
and more meaningful contracts, anyway. I do also think that most such
contracts would not be even close to the same for gays as they would
be for heterosexuals. (Mine would read mainly about having children
together, not havign them with other people, and the contract would
last until the children were grown and no longer, and so on. If I was
gay, it probably would have a whole different focus.)

Yes it does. Your sexual preference falls under your lifestyle

You're not? You need to go back and re-think a few comments

On the contrary, YOU need to go back and rethink a few comments that I
made. You're to busy grandstanding your gay rights platform to have
adiscussion about anything.

At any rate, marriage has always been an informal practice
that has existed for centuries.

"Was" always, not "Has" always.

It still is. The formal part of most marriages are nearly non
existent compared to the informal parts. And the actual contract
entailed in a marriage is completely implied (informally). Perhaps
you think I mean "t shirt and jeans" or some such silly thing.
Obviously, I am referring to the LEGAL implications of marriage. All
the pomp and circumstance of a proper catholic wedding does not do
anythign to make the marriage more FORMAL. That is informal and has
no particular FORMAL legal implications. It is not as though jus
because you had a CATHOLIC wedding they are going to start treating
you any differently than a couple that got married at the justice of
the peace. That is why are mostly informal agreements between people
that are nonetheless upheld in court to various extents

It's certainly not now, and it hasn't been for many decades.

It certainly is.

It's also irrelevant. It's a strawman.

No it is not an irrelevant straw man. You are just an argumentative
***** who thinks he is striking a blow for gay rights right now.

There is no legislation,
no constitutional amendment that would return marriage to
an informal practice, and none with any chance of ever
being seriously considered.

What are you talking about? Marriage is an informal practice. There
is no legal contract everyone signs with all the specific duties of
husband wife listed therein. That is a formal arrangement. Having a
minister get up and recite scripture doesn't make the *marriage* any
more formal. A marriage is an INFORMAL arrangement between two
people.

You're a selfaggrandizing dumbass. Do you think we are all impressed

are! You must be enlightened and wise if you can be so accepting of
gay marriages!

I choose to be heterosexuall all the time whenever I have sex with a
member of the opposite sex.

Most people have sex with someone (when sexual enjoyment is the
motivation) because they feel a sexual attraction for that person.
One does not choose to feel that attraction. You do not choose to be
heterosexual or homoxexual. If you are not heteroxexual, you are not
going to be attracted to the opposite sex. If you are not homosexual,
you are not going to be attracted to your own sex. It is not a matter
