Some of my posts don't appear on my computer. It's sort of 'hit or miss' But
on several occasions, I think it was a good thing. Some of my 'missing'
posts were quite 'offensive'. But on the other hand, I think I've shown
great restraint. The treatment I've been on the receiving end out here
almost defies description.
What, exactly, are the 'problems' *you* are experiencing?

What did you expect? googlegroups is a cheap ripoff of USENET.

That's a bit harsh. Google Groups isn't a "ripoff of Usenet", it's a
Usenet archive. It used to be a company called DejaNews and it has an
archive of all textual Usenet posts for about the last 25 years. Quite the
library. When I have a technical problem, it's the first place I "Google".
Plus, I travel a lot and have to use computers I don't own. I can't access
my home ISP's newsserver, and often can't install a news reader on just any
PC. I don't want to pay for a third party news server with the available
alternative choices.
I'd say that Google Groups grades a solid A overall. To answer justiz, it
has been having problems the last several days, and last night was
particularly bad. I switched back to XNews and frankly, I'm not too
pleased with how it threads the articles.
So, as with all things, to each his own.

Right.
I have to admit, Google is a great search engine. I have it set as "home"
in every browser I have contact with. What makes it suck as a Usenet
client is the fact that Usenet is not web-based. Perhaps with a few well-
thought-out tools implanted it could actually approach the useability of
Outlook Express (which is terribly limited, but affords many of us a *real*
Usenet experience). The difference between Google Groups and a designated
newsreader is like... well... Christianity and Reality.

The user profiles have never made any sense on Google.
We are lucky to have it but it's not even close to Dejanews.

Or you could say it's an archive they've tried (without much success) to
turn into a newsreader. Why they bothered, I don't know. The archive is
useful, the Googly Groups thing is pretty pointless. Not to mention, they
enable trolls and kooks to flee AUPs with abandon...

Good advice, Mark.

Well, that in itself isn't "advice".
There are reasons for using Google (not many in my opinion but they exist)
but if you're going to, you're just going to have to live with problems.
Google simply is *not going to put that much effort into Usenet. It's just
not much of a "profit center".

Speaking of which, I just discovered that big chunks of 2005 are flat
missing from the Google archive.
Particularly around the time of Katrina...
