Anyone Still Against The Death Penalty? |

Violence is a bad thing. Ideally, one wants a world completely devoid
of violence.
Maybe that's possible on planet Mongo....Not here.
Any sort of system that makes certain acts of violence "legal" and
certain acts "illegal" will prevent violence from being eliminated. So
in effect, the legal/illegal classifaction will help perpetuate
violence.
Well, I say that putting people in jail is an act of violence.
Are you against that?
This is so simple, why don't people understand it?
It's not simple, you are. You wish to live in a fairy-tale world
where everyone is nice and no one has to work and we can
all just smoke dope all day long.
Lovely, simply fucking lovely.

So you don't want to live in a world where everyone is "nice"?
Seems you are the problem then.
You see you have to have a goal in order to be able to achieve it. Most
sane people would like a world in which acts like murder (whether state
sponsored or not) do not occur - that's the goal.
Of course in order to get there, it's necessary to look at the actual
situation and institute steps to move towards the goal while regulating
the existing state.
The DP is regulating the existing state, but it also defeats the goal.
So the question is, should we give up on DP or give up on the goal since
the two are mutually exclusive?
At some point that decision must be made - anti-DPers believe the time
to give up on DP is now, and extended/imporved prison sentences can
replace it.
Pro-DPers evidently would prefer for murder to keep happening and just
drop the anti-murder goal altogether.

You are kidding? Right? The concept of a world where everyone is "nice"
is a complete fantasy. If you are going to discuss the death penalty,
bringing into the debate fantasies and then trying to justify a fantasy
by using fantasy logic..... oh man, this is funny! There are real reasons
why people are against the death penalty, but trying to bring into the
idea of a world where everyone is "nice"..... that's hilarious!

One way to make the world a place in which everyone is nice is to kill
off everyone who isn't. So it seems that you have the same desire.

Sorry skippey - the term "nice" was used by the pro-DPer hence the quotes
in my post.
