Abortion Protester Jailed After Losing Molestation Appeal
The Associated Press
MILTON, Fla. (AP) -
An activist with ties to anti-abortion violence has been jailed after
losing an appeal of his conviction and 18-year prison sentence for
molesting a teenager at the home for troubled girls he operated.
Santa Rosa County sheriff's deputies took John Burt, 67, into custody
Wednesday.
A three-judge panel of the 1st District Court of Appeal on Friday
unanimously upheld his conviction on five counts of lewd or lascivious
molestation or conduct with a child under 16.
Defense lawyer Nicole Ferry said Burt will appeal further.
He could ask for a rehearing before or take his case to the Florida
Supreme Court.
The appellate panel, however, made either option more difficult
because the decision was issued without a written explanation.
Burt has been a key figure in anti-abortion protests and violence in
nearby Pensacola.
He had associated with Michael Griffin, now serving a life sentence
for fatally shooting an abortion doctor in 1993, and Paul Hill,
executed in 2003 for the shooting deaths of another doctor and clinic
escort in 1994.
He was jailed in the 1980s for bursting into a clinic and damaging
equipment.
He also demonstrated in support of two young couples who bombed three
clinics on Christmas Day 1984.
Burt was convicted last year of molesting a 15-year-old resident at
Our Father's House, which he and his wife, Linda, operated near
Milton.
His appeal objected to Circuit Judge Ron Swanson's decision to let the
victim, now 18, testify from Northern Ireland on a satellite
television link, arguing that deprived him of being able to face his
accuser.
Burt also appealed another ruling by Swanson that barred use of the
victim's medical records in his trial.
The victim testified Burt improperly touched her and wrote a note
propositioning her.
Her father is a state employee from Boynton Beach, but she went to
live with her mother in Northern Ireland after leaving Our Father's
House.

Of course the giy is "pro-life". Where are his victims going to come from?

You know, I thought just that.
One question came up in another discussion forum about this:
Are unwanted black children sexually raped by Christian clergy in
greater frequency than unwanted white children? The question factors
into adoption behavior in the United States where there's a _lot_ of
unadoptable black children yet the only white kids nobody wants are
already in their teens -- ages where the kids are more likely to
fight back.
