ARRESTED IN
DEVELOPMENT
By Newton Joseph
Of the thousands of superstitions throughout the world held by every nation
for the past 4000 years, most have centered on religion. Ancient Muslims,
Christians and Jews had good reason to be superstitious; one can forgive
their ignorance in a pre-scientific era. The creation of fanciful stories
was their best explanation for all they did not understand.
What can one say about America where we have public education and the
majority of people hold the same religious superstitions as they had in Dark
Age? Can one respect a superstitious person living in this true age of
enlightenment? Can one have respect for those who chose superstition(faith)
over proof and evidence? Most every politician in government is not
embarrassed about his or her superstitious beliefs; this is the phenomenon
of religion. One rarely moves away from one’s childhood religion. One can
safety say all who hold religious beliefs are arrested in development (they
believe as they did when they were children).
