Were you a police officer in NYC in the 1950s when the elderly or sick were
forced out of Bethel when no longer able to WORK? They were paying these
people $14 or less a week and there was no pension. Some of them ended up
sleeping/living on the streets of Brooklyn. The WTS's GB made no
arrangements for these unpaid workers when they were no longer "useful" to
them. They expected these elderly/sick/mentally ill to find a relative to
move in with - like everyone had room for these old folks - after these old
JWs REJECTED their family years before no less! Many of these oldsters had
no family to take them in. It was a real scandal for awhile.
Someone on this NG has claimed they built a Nursing Home for those they
cannot "dump" on family members but I can't find any information these WTS
NHs. Then another JW claimed they don't allow people to work at Bethel
their entire lives anymore since that scandal of the 1950s. Rather than pay
people's benefits, pensions and a living wage, they now want only the *young
& healthy* and for a limited amount of time.

people's benefits, pensions and a living wage, they now want only the *young
& healthy* and for a limited amount of time.
Other than to pass through, I haven't been in Brooklyn in about 30
years, so I have no idea what's going on there now.
