Object: At the same Inn as Darwin
Gidday all,
Liquid Grace and I went away for the long weekend, up to the Blue
Mountains (if you are ever in Sydney, I really recommend going).
One night we wandered into Blackheath, one of the small mountain towns,
and had dinner at one of the local pubs. A small plaque near the
entrance noted that Charles Darwin visited the pub in 1836 and checked
out the local views, as well as examining the local flora and fauna.
See: http://www.bluemts.com.au/tourist/towns/blackheath.asp
Fascinating stuff! As an ex-biologist, I had chills from knowing I was
sitting in the same building as the great man himself.
Cheers,

"But <splutter> he went to public school"

Seriously, though, you could be right, but I think that's a bit of a
premature judgement. Robin Hood cannot be traced to a specific writer
of fiction, nor is there anything incredible or miraculous about the
tales involving him.
His type existed: wood-dwelling rebellious outlaws and robbers and
gangs. The notion that amongst these was a mob leader called Robyn Hode
doesn't alert me to fiction.

I haven't slep for dais so il be breaf. Robert is French name, and alse
character is fallen aristocat -- Norman. Legend is in minnle aged, not
saxon aged, so not old english but middle English -- although at about
1200 still predominantly overly very saxon. Scottish dialect also very
similar to dutch -- including words like Ken and In\Oot, Gang, ect,
etc. Further north in Brittain you go, further backing time you go in
language.

It seems lots of cultures have to have a Robin Hood type of character.
Usually some historical figure can be made to fit the bill but if not
one has to be invented. In the US there is Jesse James, In India the
Bandit Queen and in Oz Ned Kelly.

The gates of alt.atheism slowly swung open, and there stood The Great
Hairy One <the.great.hairy@GEEmail.com>,who intoned thus:

Cheers,
TGHO
