Atheism and the Campaign |
Although Bush and Kerry are both falling all over themselves to publicly
embrace religion, I was pleased to hear Kerry say, during the debates, that
atheists have a right to their personal beliefs as well. Even Bush
acknowledged the right to reject religion, though he spoke less directly
than Kerry when questioned on this issue. While such a gesture to
non-believers may seem little to celebrate, our current climate of religious
intolerance made even this mild display of open-mindedness something to note
with encouragement.

Does this mean that we can be considered patriots and citizens again? I
mean, just in case we get an administration that I wouldn't be embarrassed
to be associated with?
