But not all Communists are/were atheists. There are/were large numbers of

My point was that even assuming if what he was saying was correct it

RCMan does not give a source for the Lenin quote, but it could
have been from something he wrote attacking those communists who
did believe in God. It is years since I read his stuff, but I
remember that he got quite emotional about the issue at one
point.
I very much doubt that it would have made much difference if the
theists had won the day.
