Object: Atheism origin
It seems that some people, faced with a concept they cannot understand,
opt to reject it. But there are some facts that we cannot possibly
reject, like the existence of infinite space, infinite time, and
infinite numbers, which are clearly beyond our grasp. These facts
provide us with a justification to accept concepts we do not
understand.

What do you think makes the world tick. and indeed the whole universe?
It is energy! Without energy nothing can happen. That is why you have
to eat everyday, and you have to put gas in you car, and connect you
computer and any other gadget you have to some sort of energy source,
for them to work. It is also why perpetual motion machines cannot be
built. Do you know what energy is?

E=MC2

Energy has two main presentations, one of them is E =mc^2, the other is
radiant energy: photons. Photons have no mass, and cannot be seen; they
are not material; we see only their effects.

Peter

Oh will you please get off the "none material" crap wagon.

Photons are matter, they occupy space, they have weight, they are
matter. There for, they are material things.

Do yourself a favor pokefool, stop posting your god ***** to an atheism
newsgroup. You are just making yourself look foolish.

I get the impression that no other outcome is possible when he opens

I would remind Mr. Oakfield that a handful of alt.atheism regulars are
qualified in the physics of Quantum Electrodynamics.
We were amused by Peters juvenile stumbling on the topic, but have
become bored at his lack of grasp of even the basics of physics.
But it is no surprise coming from someone who fervently believes that
a man can walk on water.

I can, and do, at times decide to walk on water.

And how, just how, do you walk on water?

Leviticus 24:16
And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to
death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the
stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name
of the Lord, shall be put to death.

My personal fave:

19:19 Thou shalt not ......... neither shall a garment mingled of linen and
woollen come upon thee.

Hmm. I wonder if all of those bible thumpers keep that one. Isn't the
penalty death by stoning?

There is a very clear commandment from God: "Thou shall not kill."

16 By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns,

good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be

21 Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the
kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in
heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. 22 Many will say to
me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and
cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? 23 And
then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you
that work iniquity. 24 Every one therefore that heareth these my words,
and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon
a rock, 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew,
and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a
rock.

26 And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall
be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand, 27 And the
rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon
that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof. 28 And it came
to pass when Jesus had fully ended these words, the people were in
admiration at his doctrine.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or
one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

So. If one commits adultery, and is honest about it, are you going to
stone that person to death? How about children who curse their

In Matthew 7:13-28, I read:

13 Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is
the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in
thereat. 14 How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth
to life: and few there are that find it! 15 Beware of false prophets,
who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are
ravening wolves.

16 By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns,
or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good
fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree
cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth
good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be
cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits
you shall know them.

So which part are you claiming is irrefutable, objective, verifiable
evidence of your deity? That there's a church, that that church still
exists, or that there's a particular number of members?

I said no physical evidence can be presented because God is not

You're dodging the question; support your assertion. You claimed this
deity of yours "founded a church 2000 years ago, which still persists,
and is one of the largest in the world." Which part of that claim is
irrefutable, objective, verifiable evidence of the existence of this
deity? Are you claiming that ANY church over a certain age, with a
certain number of members, is not based on mythology? What is the age
cutoff, and what is required the membership level?

This is mere assumption on your behalf.
There is no evidence for an historical Jesus, outside of your New
Testament.
And even that evidence is self-contradictory.
You want to argue the bible with me?
Great! Bring 'em on.
The Jesus of the bible was almost certainly a later fiction.

What is? "The person most like Yeshua bar Yoshua (the Christos) in the

Compare:
Both were Semitic.
Both were charismatic and attracted many followers.
Both were zealous followers of their religion.
Both tried to lead their followers to a new 'purer' view of the religion.
Both felt they suffered from foreign control of their country.
Both felt the leadership of their country was foreign influenced and

BTW, isn't Osama more or less an invention or creation of the 'Crusaders'?
ISTM they just chose different paths to express their views.

Both were zealous followers of their religion.
Both tried to lead their followers to a new 'purer' view of the religion.
Both felt they suffered from foreign control of their country.
Both felt the leadership of their country was foreign influenced and
corrupt.

BTW, isn't Osama more or less an invention or creation of the 'Crusaders'?

ISTM they just chose different paths to express their views.

The very big difference is that OBL is known to have existed.
It is a vast chasm, unless you have some even minor evidence that an
historical Jeebers ever existed outside of the imaginations of some
second century confabulists.
I get your 'drift', and it is valid, except for that one gigantic
difference.
It is akin to comparing Hitler with Darth Vader.

Not at all: God wants us to be honest. He will not punish us for being
honest. Besides, the Bible says that "The will of God is that all be
saved."

Oh?

Read Matthew 7:13-28. Jesus says most people will go to Hell, even
those who did everything he asked of them.

Jesus also promises his apostles that if a town ignores them, everyone
there shall be damned to hellfire.

Have you actually *read* the Bible?

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the
source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a
stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as
good as dead: his eyes are closed." - Albert Einstein

Matthew 5:17-18
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am
not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or
one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

So. If one commits adultery, and is honest about it, are you going to
stone that person to death? How about children who curse their
parents; they're supposed to be stoned to death, too.

They brought a woman who had committed adultery to Jesus; do you know
what happened then?

Peter

Jesus is a mythical character.
Get over your infantile obsession with conflating mythology and
reality.

Mythical? He founded a church 2000 years ago, which still persists, and
is one of the largest in the world.

Peter

This is mere assumption on your behalf.
There is no evidence for an historical Jesus, outside of your New
Testament.
And even that evidence is self-contradictory.
You want to argue the bible with me?
Great! Bring 'em on.

The Jesus of the bible was almost certainly a later fiction.

I am not assuming that the church that Jesus founded is still standing,
and has more than one billion members; that is a fact. A Jewish
historian, Flavius Josephus, who lived at the time of Jesus, mentioned
Him in his writings.

God is supposed to be a spirit; the laws of physics do not
deal
with spirits. Spirits must be in a different dimension.

And your evidence that spirits exist
is...........................?

You've got the cart before the horse. First, what *is*
spirit?

Jack Daniels! ;)

But would you want to exist in a world with an infinite amount
of Jack Daniels?

Colin Day aa #1500

The universe is a big place, perhaps big enough to hide an
infinite
supply of Jack Daniels in.

Faith is defined briefly as an illogical belief in the
occurrence
of the
improbable.

I think you are right, according to the world. But when you had
been
praying for it, and it happens, what can you think?

I think that any adult who 'prays' is mentally immature.
I'm not at all surprised when gullible superstitious fools like you
conflate correlation wiuth causation.

The most notorious criminals of recent times: Stalin, Hitler, Mao,
Pol
Pot, who murdered millions of their own people, did not even pretend
to
be religious: they clearly did not believe in any god.

Peter

Liar.

Hitler was raised Catholic, and remained Christian through his rule.

Stalin was reported to have had a religious background including
attendance at church school.

The Bible says "Thou shall not kill."

The bible also says that you should stone anyone that picks up sticks on
the
sabbath.

That seems to be a historical fact in the old testament. It is not true
now.

Then what makes any part of the bible true now? Guess you can just pick an
choose what you want to be "true now", eh?

You have to use your intelligence.

Using our intelligence is why we reject the assertion the bible is
"true."
