Atheist & Their Father rebuttal |
I don't believe anyone who says he/she was an atheist and then converted to
religion. Many theist claim this but it's not true unless they experienced
a traumatic head injury perhaps. Second I'm 62 and have been an atheist all
my life, born an atheist like everyone and have never seen the tiniest
reason to be superstitious and believe in the supernatural. I also have a
degree in Bio-Chemistry which allows me to understand evolution and not have
to resort to the "God did it" answer on things I don't understand. I have
always felt the "supernatural" should be termed the "Subnaturial" for it's
debase beliefs and low intellectual state.

I'd have to take exception with that. Everyone is born atheist. Then at some
point, some people are gullible enough to buy into fairy tales and cynical
promises.
Many theist claim this but it's not true unless they experienced
a traumatic head injury perhaps.
I will hazard that they didn't pop out of the womb with a hearty amen. ;-)
Second I'm 62 and have been an atheist all

That's pretty much my story too.

You'll get no argument from me on that.

Indeed. As a rule of thumb (based on my personal experience) it's perfectly
safe to assume that:
Whenever a fundie claims he was once an atheist... he lies for jebus.
Whenever a cretinist/IDiot claims to have received any science education...
he lies for jebus.
Whenever a cretinist/IDiot claims to have a degree (whatever one) in
science... he lies for jebus (oh well, unless it's from a diploma mill).
Et cetera, ad nauseam.
Exceptions are theoretically possible but have yet to be found.

I treat such claims with suspicion (because often it is obviously a
ploy...) but I dont automatically reject them all.
Why? I remember being a teenager.
For me - it was more like I remember everyone *else* being a teenager
(ie just short of being certifiably insane, impulsive, oversexed,
under-inhibited, amoral etc etc) and I was just me - but I digress.
People are very complex things - in particular people are ruled by
their emotions and their hormones to a *much* greater degree than by
their reasoning mind.
One scenario: someone is 16 thinks they are a hard headed atheist -
then they get their heart brocken for the first time - their world
falls apart - they meet a cute girl/guy and find Jesus.
I am sure it happens a lot.
It happens to adults too - but most of this commiting to things with
great passion happens to teenagers (and twenty somethings) and
teenagers are (in general) insane - so anything is possible.
I am also a lifetime atheist - although I desperately wanted to be a
christian when I was a teenager - I just couldn't "switch off" my
doubts/questioning mind.
Mark.

I can predict James Randi nodding in agreement, too.

It's trivially true since all are born with a lack of superstition.
Sadly, so many of those who are supposed to nurture and protect their
young instead betray them dreadfully.
