Atheist beheaded--apparently by Bible-toting ex-marine |
Via Larry Darby's Atheist Daily Briefing*, I learned of the murder of
Robert Lees, an atheist, apparently by a bible-toting ex-marine.

I hope they are able to put the perpetrator away for life. What allows
human beings to perform such grisly deeds?

Yes, but I don't think it was about Mr. Lee's religious beliefs or lack
thereof. Just his unlucky day to cross paths with some loser with a bad
case of methamphetamine induced psychosis.

Methamphetamine, apparently, according to one of the links you put up.
The guy definitely has that "been wired for 17 straight days" look to
him in the accompanying photo. Having seen people trying to pull
imaginary transmitters out of their ears with tweezers, insist that
they were being followed by UFOs, or that they were under surveillance
by little green men in the bushes, this one isn't all that unbelievable.
Speed has the power to send some people completely off the deep end.

As does religion.

Is meth use considered biblically correct?

Oh. That makes it OK then.

No, it just means that you don't need to become paranoid about it. Dumbshit.

Irrational behavior. Not the Bible (though it probably helped
somewhat).

Okay. But the real best reason to have a gun is to make loud noises and
large flashes of light. At last count, I had 14 of them. Another one
will be arriving middle of next week.Who am I to criticise your
decision? However, the risk that you will be beheaded by a drug-addled
theist is no greater than the risk that you would find yourself on a
plane that gets hijacked and flown straight into a tall building.
Neither of these is anywhere near as likely as simply dropping dead of a
heart attack.
If you want to use a gun for self-defense, understand that shooting
people is a martial art, like Karate or Aikido or anything else. You
will need instruction, in both techniques and ethical principles, and
fairly regular practice to maintain your skills. Like power tools, you
must learn and rigorously follow safe handling and usage practices. So
must everyone in your household. Most lawsuits arising from firearm
injuries are a direct result of someone violating more than one safety
rule. I'm apalled by people who sue firearms manufacturers when, if the
individual who shot them had simply not been pointing the damned weapon
at something they would find it inconvenient to shoot, and had not had
their finger on the trigger, nothing whatsoever would have happened.
Chainsaws in the hands of morons are fairly dangerous, too, but I don't
see people trying to sue Husquevarna out of business.

Did you get a license for shooting off your mouth?
