Since the book isn't a poltical in nature, far as I can tell,
wouldn't this be of interest to atheists who aren't Democrats as well?

I would hope so. I'd be very interested in learning of a statistical
breakdown of atheists' political affiliations. Off hand, I would say that
most atheists are probably democrats.

You might be surprised at how many conservative atheists

The only known atheist to be elected to major political office in the US in the
last century was a conservative. Guy by the name of Ventura.
Of course, Ventura is an old-school limited government libertarian conservative
and has no relation to the big-government Christian-supremacist totalitarians
who call themselves conservatives nowadays.

Some atheists support the Republicans *in spite of*, not because of such
idiocy. Some of us have our prioriteis in order. I wish that there was a
viable alternative the the Republicans, but alas there isn't. If the Dems
had nominated Joe Lieberman, we would have a choice (he'd have my vote), but
they didn't. They nominated Flipper and so we're stuck with Bush as the
only qualified candidate.

You might be surprised at how many conservative atheists
there are.
Which, I like to point out, are completely different from Republican
atheists. Unless you think that running a massive budget deficit is
somehow "conservative".
And you might be surprised how many Republican atheists
there are.
Atheists who support faith-based initiatives...hmmm. Why would an
atheist
belong to a party that wants to make Christianity the state religion?
Some atheists support the Republicans *in spite of*, not because of such
idiocy. Some of us have our prioriteis in order.
What priorities might those be? More lies and scumminess? Environmental
destruction? Anti-gay bigotry? Eroding freedom? Tax cuts for the rich at the
expense of ordinary people? A shitty economy? Unemployment? Skyrocketing
medical costs? Nucular (sp) proliferation? Abolition of abortion rights?
Deepening national debt? Wealthier oil companies? Record high gas prices? A
failed war against terrorism? A disastrous war in Iraq? The disrespect of
the world community? A less safe world? Sorry, but I can't think of a single
positive thing that Bush stands for. Please enlighten me of anything good
he's done, because I haven't seen it.
I wish that there was a
viable alternative the the Republicans, but alas there isn't. If the Dems
had nominated Joe Lieberman, we would have a choice (he'd have my vote),
but
they didn't. They nominated Flipper and so we're stuck with Bush as the
only qualified candidate.
Kerry is the only qualified candidate in the race. Bush has been a disaster
the past 4 years, and Kerry is an honest man and a strong leader who will do
a great deal of good for the country, the lies of the right-wing propaganda
machine notwithstanding. And Bush is a far greater flip-flopper than Kerry
could ever dream of being.

Jimmy Carter is a much better ex-president than he ever was a
President. Maybe there is hope for George Bush yet.
