583 articles with the word "resurrection".
223 articles with the word "apostle".
211 articles with the word "Noah".

[speculation snipped]
Multiply this by all the settlements experiencing similar disasters
over
thousands of years, how easy must it have been, when travelers

[Not forgetting free food for the leaders and 'for the ones who

This is indeed how the religious position of atheists evolves --
convenience, leading to irrational conformity of whatever values and
ideas are fashionable at the time. Christians, on the other hand,
believe in something that can be defined.
That little story obviously hit home judging my your response. i hope you

You hate your own family. You have no right to tell anyone about
values.

wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life

It is a fact that some of us feel sorry for religionists knowing their
frustration in trying to substantiate their myth. This so often results in
name calling and so much deviation.
Frankly the Internet is Religions greatest challenge providing as it does a
forum for all to air their views without fear of having a brick thrown at them.
The closest I remember is Speakers Corner in London where anyone can get up and
spout, if he has the stamina to handle the barracking from the crowd. Now this
small crowd, thanks to The Internet, runs into millions.

What's interesting with this thread, is that most Christians are obsessed
with Christianity and some become addicts to religion and lose sight of
their individuality. (For instance look to the occasional mass suicides

It is not hard to accept humans have special brains, some say freak brains stemming
from a evolutionary hiccup, a bit like the giraffes neck - a similar thing. So we
are capable of imagining gods and all their trappings. At least some of us are.
Many others in fact the large majority, are imbibed from birth, which is totally
wrong. Children should be free and not be forced or cajoled into following their

them.
Whatever they are -- and I live in this society too, remember -- if you
can't make a rational case for them, then that is more damning than
anything I might say.
Roger, Roger...how lame. It isn't that he can't make a case for his values,
that wasn't the point in question. He just told you that by not knowing his
values you couldn't criticize them. Damn Roger, you're just not too bright,
are you?
.........is this what you call Christian love?
Abuse noted.
Roger again shows that he hasn't a clue as to abuse. This is just his method
of deflecting attention away from the fact that he can't answer the
question.
But there is more to spirituality than that. For those who can
distinguish myth from literal truth and remain within the tradition,
there is great wisdom and deep mystical truths which are worthy of
contemplation. These are the means of uniting with the godhead,
something shared at the most essential level by most of the great
religions of the world.
It is not hard to accept humans have special brains, some say freak brains stemming
from a evolutionary hiccup, a bit like the giraffes neck - a similar thing. So we
are capable of imagining gods and all their trappings. At least some of us are.
Many others in fact the large majority, are imbibed from birth, which is totally
wrong. Children should be free and not be forced or cajoled into following their
parents myths
We all need myth and we all need metaphor - in fact we use metaphor in
all we do - it's part of language.
By passing these on to our children we preclude the need to reinvent the
wheel with every generation.

Right now there are 1.1 billion in China with no religious leanings and they are doing
alright, about to become, as many predict, the success story of this region the very
near future.
So when the Chinese take all the dollars in return for producing products at attractive
prices what can we do? Pray I suppose!

You hypocritical scumbag. You have no idea what our values are.
Remember, the moron imagines that people can't be trusted to determine
what is right and wrong themselves. So in his deluded fantasies they
need the several-thousand-year-old book to tell them, with the treat
or reward from an imaginary alpha male. Instead of determining right
and wrong by the effect of our actions on others.

It seems like all you infidels do is obsess about Christianity.
You are so obsessed with your religion you think atheists direct
their common sense remarks against you alone!?
Atheists have no common sense.
Because they disagree with you?
They're the only people I know that organize

It's not easy not to believe in our culture. At least it isn't

Hmmm... Let's have a website that's dedicated to exploring how the
religious seek to influence the secular world -- but they can't use any
religious terms. Yeah, right.

In a Naipaul's "A House for Mr. Biswas", Mr. Biswas is an atheist
(primarily because everyone else is a proud but poor brahmin). Every
time one of his houses gets blessed by a pandit (via his wife's
urging), something goes wrong ... so atheism and theism don't mix!

So his is not a religious conviction but a practical one based on an
illogical premise. In this, isn't he actually turning faith on its head ?
Reminds me of the story of the nuns in some primitive culture trying to
teach the rhythm method of birth control They gave the women necklaces of
colored beads which were to be rotated daily. On days when a red bead was
in position they were to avoid having sex with their husbands. Pregnancies
did not decline because when the women wanted sex on a "red bead " day they
simply slid a black bead into place.

That's right! Reason (atheism) and insanity (Christianity) don't mix.
